I currently have an AMD motherboard installed in my computer. I wanted to upgrade my old AMD Phenom II X2 511 cpu to a better one like the AMD FX 6300. Question is I do not know what type of AMD motherboard I have and how many slots it supports for AMD FX 6300

Solution
With the information you've given, we know your motherboard supports socket AM3 processors. However, the FX 6300 is strictly an AM3+ proc with support for only DDR3 (your Phenom can use either DDR2 or DDR3 depending on the motherboard). Some AM3 boards will work with FX processors, but there's no way to know for sure with the information we have so far. Can you check CPU-Z to see if you're using DDR2 or DDR3? If it's the former, there's no way an FX proc will work; there might be a chance if it uses DDR3. You should also be able to find a motherboard model number with CPU-Z, that's even more useful.
