HI all, Just wondering what type of ram this is as i'm looking to see if i cans till purchase some new stuff to upgrade an old hp pavilion dv5000 laptop ( dv5240ca) to reinstall windows xp for the nostalgia factor and mostly to play old computer games. the ram says 512MB DDR-333mhz-cl2.5 ProMOS pc2700s-2533-1-AO (I woulda posted a picture but I cound't figure out how to attach it)

I actually have a dv5000 which works best with PC3200 DDR1-400 for the IGP--but it's Intel. Your dv5000 appears to have a Turion-64 which is a Socket 754 laptop chip. That's single-channel DDR1 only.

The Athlon-64 family of the era (2005) was extremely picky about memory, particularly if both slots in a channel were filled. Just about any 1GB PC2700/333 or PC3200/400MHz DDR1 So-DIMM modules should work though, but may not run at their rated speeds or timings. That's not great on single-channel using the ATI IGP--even at 400MHz it's only half the bandwidth of a discrete PCIe x300 card, and some of that is also needed for the CPU too.

The last time you asked this question was 3 years ago so get to upgrading already! And try used on eBay if you don't have any local electronics recyclers. There's no reason to buy new stuff for such an old machine.
