Install a Linux distro, and donate it as is (as long as it actually runs).
LinuxMint is probably fine on it.

There are no real hardware "upgrades" you can do, without changing the whole thing.

Just upgrade your SSD as well as RAM. By upgrading both of these and installing Linux Mint as said by USAFReat it will run fast and would be beneficial to the user who will be using in the Local Orphanage.

I would donate it like it is without any upgrades. There's no point upgrade only one or two parts. To make it better significantly you will have to upgrade all of it's parts, basically buying new computer. Plus, it will be hard to even find such an old parts.

It's just DDR3 RAM and the drives would be using SATA, both easy to find. Even a faster CPU is not too hard to find. With only 2 gb of RAM and an older drive it will be a big improvement to have a 120 gb ssd and another 2 gb of RAM in it.
