[SOLVED] What upgrades should I make?

I'm hoping the second half of 2020 will be better for me.

I'm planning to upgrade my rig and hopefully have a brand new PC by the end of the year.

These are my current specs:

OS - Windows 10 Home 64bit
CPU - Intel i3 6100 3.70 GHz
RAM - HyperX Fury 8gb DDR4 2400 (Will be upgrading to 16gb before the end of the month)
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2H
GPU - Gigabyte NVIDIA 1050ti 4gb
HDD (x2) - WD blue 1TB (Will be adding a 500gb SSD shortly)
PSU - EVGA 500W 80 Plus

I will be upgrading my RAM and adding a SSD shortly but apart from that I'm not really sure what to upgrade everything else to. I want something that would allow me to do some heavy browsing, streaming and of course gaming, while not breaking the bank and being able to last me 3+ years. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate them.

Found the earlier one for £119 on Amazon. That's roughly €133 so its perfect if I can get it for that price.

Yeah its a killer for its price.One of the most buyed and well reviewed cpus in 2019/2020.plus its compatible with almost every new gpu out there

So I put the build together on pcpartpicker and everything is compatible only requiring 304w. I saw on another post that somebody said to multiply that by two and and add 50-100 w extra to determine the PSU you need and to be safe. That's not including a new GPU and HDD's. Everything else new, including the case.

Swap out the case for anything that suits your fancy or is cheaper.
Unless you plan on running a rtx 2080ti and a 3950x or multiple gpu's, no need to go for high wattage psu's, it's a waste of money. Good quality psu's are generally efficient 20-80% of load within 1-2%, so the old 50% is most efficient argument doesn't really matter.

The b450 max board is only €5 cheaper at present, so the x470 would be the better value imo.

For gpu's, it depends on your resolution and refresh rate(Hz) of your monitor.

I aboslutelly agree with maxamillionfeettall. X470 will give you better options for future upgrades and its great for its price.Also if you are upping the board chipset,why not go with 3600Mhz ram speed.It will only give you more performance and who doesnt want that,and it should nt be more than 20$.The PSU maxamillionfeettall mentioned is absolutely more than enough,unless you are planning to go on a rtx and ryzen 9 platform which i wouldnt recommend on this board if you want great stability.High-end components require high-end mobo,and lets be honest this is a new-budget board,not exactly a high-end one.

Edit:Also i would recommend a aftermarket cooler since there have been many cooling reports on that stock R5 3600 cooler.I would recommend this: Scythe Mugen 5 Rev.B.

Believe it or not i use it on my i7-3770 and the cpu is more cold than hot and it doesnt make any noticable noise

The vrms are adequate for a ryzen 9, it will just need increased airflow to compensate for the extra heat output, but the op has a budget of 600, so it doesn't really matter.

I mean for 80$ its perfect.Plus if he switches to ryzen 7 he would need to change his ram speed,since when going to r7 i recommend going to the 3600mhz

The ASUS ROG Strix boards are at the top of the list for gaming Motherboards. This would be one of my favorites to use.

I think the B450 Tomahawk Max is a good choice. It would be compatible with the Ryzen 7 chip when I upgrade in the future. on Amazon.co.uk there is about a 12-15 euro difference between the 3200 and 3600 Corsair vengeance RAM. Considering the B450 supports up to 4133(OC)Mhz I should be fine with upgrading in the future. I could stick with the 3200 or sell it on and upgrade to 3600. With that in mind does the performance difference between the 3200 and 3600 justify the price?

As for cooling I have already ordered the Arctic 34 eSports DUO as my CPU cooler.

So far my build is looking like this:

I will attempt to sell most of my parts from the current build for whatever their value is at the time. If I do that I can probably take €100 off the new rigs price.

With that in mind does the performance difference between the 3200 and 3600 justify the price?

The 3600mhz ram(cl18) will net you about 5 more fps with a top-end gpu over the 3200mhz ram(cl16), anything lower then a 2080ti will get you 0-3 fps.

People on Amazon said it comes with the latest BIOS so I shouldn't have a problem there.

The asus b450-f isn't as good as the tomahawk. It'll work if it has the updated bios, but otherwise the vrm runs on the hotter side so don't overclock with it.

The b450-f has a 16mb(tomahawk max has 32mb) bios chip, so it is unknown whether or not it'll have enough space to work with next gen ryzen.

So the last couple days I've been doing a little more research and I came to a decision to change a few things about the build I put up on Sunday.

This how the final build will look like + (upgrades)

Ryzen 5 3600 (Will probably upgrade to a Ryzen 7)
MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 2x8GB DDR4 3600 Mhz (Another 16 GB kit will be added later)
Gigabyte Gtx 1050Ti 4GB (Will be upgraded to either a 1660 or 2060)
x2 WD 1TB Hard Drives (Will add a 1TB SSD for all my games which will replace one of the HDDs)
Sabrent 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD

Total Cost (not including HDDs and GPU which are recycled)

Looks good. If you're gonna keep waiting for a gpu, nvidia may be releasing their next gen within the next few months, though that wont include the mid-range parts.

When you do upgrade, the 1660 super is usually only a little more then the 1660 but performs nearly the same as a 1660ti, so very worth the extra 20.
