What upgrades to get for my gaming/3d/editing pc?

My current pc has:
i5 4690k @4.3 ghz
An aftermarket cpu air cooler w/ 2 fans
16GB RAM
Z97 msi mobo
2x GTX 970 4gb each
5TB of hdd (2x 1TB, 1x 3TB)
120GB of SSD for os and programs
2x 1080p monitors
80+ Gold 750 watt PSU

I use my pc for a variety of things, from gaming (GTA V, Minecraft, Witcher 3, etc) Video editing (Premiere, After Effects, Audition), 3d stuff (Maya, ZBrush). Personally, my gaming experience is fine, I can get a steady 60fps at high~ultra settings, but my rendering speed is sort of slow at times, especially since I've been doing more and more. I was considering getting a Xeon, and maybe some more RAM. But I've heard that Xeons suck with games, so...
Then I considered getting an i7, either a 4... and getting other stuff, or doing a full redo of my pc, and getting an i7 5820k and a new mobo and new RAM.
My budget is around $850, but if I don't need to spend money, I'd rather not.
Just wondering what I should do!

I would get an i7 for your current motherboard and a 1TB SSD to read and write from for rendering. Get rid of one of the 1TB HDDs if you need a port.

A great way to upgrade your system is to get an i7, I recomend you the i7 4790k.
Also an SSD of half a Tb would be great. To increase the speed of your HDD have you sort-stroked them?
Sort-stroking is a way to differenciate the two parts of the drive, the one closer to the circle that runs faster and
the one on the outer side. It is great so if you haven't done that I highly suggest you to do so.
Now you should check whether the 16 Gb of RAM are ok with all the programs you are running. If it's close to the limit you would rather get a bit more RAM because PCs do not appreciate running at 100%.

If I were to get a 500GB SSD, what files would I put on it? Project files, previews, cache? I would probably get a stick of 4 or 8GB RAM, then the 4790k.
And what SSD would you recommend?

2xSandisk SSD Plus 240GB would be great and cheeper than a 500Gb from what I see, + 1x4gb stick, would leave you with around $700
The 4790k costs about 300$ but it's your decision 😉

Great even though I do not see the reason for such an expensive optical drive... like a 20 $ one would do the work except if you are doing a whole lot of work with cds and dvds
