Cyrix 6x86MX @ 150Mhz was the first one I owned, The Pentium MMX 200Mhz was the first used.

How long did that Cyrix chip last? No one that I know who had one managed to make that chip survive. They all died before they stopped using the computer. I remember getting mad at the local shop because for the same price they would have sold my mother in law either a P233 or a K6-2 400 (it might have been a 450) They told my MIL that AMDs were junk, and unless she wanted to replace the chip again, she needs to get the P233. Morons. Last I checked this shop has stopped selling all AMD devices, and sells only Intel.

Back then, even w/ the K6-2, AMD still had a horrible reputation with enthusiasts and builders. They would have taken Cyrix over AMD any day. Up until the K6, anyone with a brain stayed away from AMD. I remember telling a buddy of mine (who was VERY knowledgable) about the new K6 and how it spanked the Pentium MMX. He laughed and said "yeah right." He didn't believe me until he saw the benchmarks.

AMD's good reputation didn't really start until the K7 Athlon.

actually, its via who should be blamed of this reputation, since most of their chipsets where terrible, with insane ammounts of faults, yet they delivered the products, its almost like intel paid via "make the worst chipsets ever for them" XD

True... and maybe it's the fact that the K6 worked on intel chipsets that made it so successful. Regardless, the K5 was still a POS.

A blazing fast 400mhz celeron. I can remember trying to run neverwinter nights on it years ago. Got a good 20 odd fps thanks to my awesome hamster powered Elsa Gladiac graphics card.

I only figured out that I didnt use my Voodoo rush correctly with the glide and the drivers after having it for a month 😛 ( I was a newbe back than )
And then, after having it working I enjoyed playing Turok 😛 which came with the card :)

Ah... the memories...

Compaq Presario 4840, Black Case w/ buttons on it.

Pentium II, 266Mhz, 32 MB Ram, 4 MB video ram. 6.5 gig hard drive.

Lotta machine for $2000+ back in the day....

It was still slow...

LOL

First computer i remember using was a 386 running windows 3.1, thats all i knew about it cuz i was too young to know more.

the first machine i personally owned was a:

AMD Athlon XP 2400+
256mb ram
Geforce FX 5600XT 256mb
40gb hd
Windows 98se

😀

My brothers had a commodore 64, but they were 10 years old than me.

August 1996 my dad bought an IBM Aptiva.

120mhz Pentium
16mb EDO ram
1.6gb HD
Win 95
4x CD-Rom, Floppy
ATI Rage onboard graphics

My own personal first? 386-40MHz (AMD) with standard performance VGA card; no co-processor. I had drooled over the PC, PC-XT (hard drive!) and PC-AT (80286) but never was able to gather enough funds to buy either of those.

I was able to use others' or school PCs before that though: Commodore-64 (friend's), Original PC (school), 386 and 486-25 (work). Maybe you'd want to include UNIX timesharing workstations and terminals (school).

Afterwards:
>> Pentium-90 with SCSI and Matrox Millenium
>> Pentium-II 400 with SCSI and early Radeon
>> AMD Thunderbird 2000+ with U2-SCSI and nVidia 4600
>> AMD FX-60 with Areca RAID-5 and Raptor, over 1TB total, Radeon x1900

Always bleeding edge. Paid for it too.

8088 4mhz. not sure the brand of processor. was in a Franklin PC, had cga video, 128 kb of ram, and two 5 1/4 drives for media. i later upgraded to 1 meg of ram and a seagate 30 Mb RLL harddrive. and then just before a total upgrade, i changed the harddrive to a 40Mb western digital "hardcard" if ayone can remember those...lol

1st PC I had was a TI 99/4A. I think it had 16K RAM.. dont remember for sure.

1st PC that was mine was a 4.77mhz IBM XT, maxed out with 640k of RAM. And NO HD.

There was a game called HyperBlade that game with my Voodoo. It was one of the first Glide enabled games. Anyways, i played that game non-stop. To this day it's still one of my favorite games.

I'm still stuck on SimCity 3000. It's the one and only game I play. You have to jump through a few hoops to get it to run on XP Pro, but it's well worth the hassle. And no, I don't like 4000.

The K6's may have had a bad rap, but when they bought out the 386DX 40Mhz it for awhile the the best and fastest on the market. First fully 32bit CPU if my memory serves me correct. It was even faster then the first Intel 486SX's

While we are on old things, does anyone remeber lobe runner? Good game very hard. Once got upto level 60 something but the computer (8086) didn't have enough memory and sapped all my high scores. :x :x
Great game. :)

I think my father still has an Old Apple IIc in there hall way that still has lobe runner on it. Not used much now days. Sometimes when us "Kids" go home lobe runner still gets a bash. :)

IBM 1620 with 20K magnetic core (ferrite doughnuts) memory, with 10cps typewriter console and card reader/punch. I had Fortran compiler and Assembler on card decks. I wrote machine language, too, but mostly just to memorize the loader settings toggled in from the console. Could heat the whole house when it was running. Main console was about 1500 lbs., not too portable. I learned a lot on that machine, and it was a lot of fun!

had it not been for all the bugs, Sim City 4 would have been a great game.

I think my first PC was a 286DX66 or 33.... i think. i still remember its (turbo) button. hehe and i had 8 megs of ram, and a 400meg HDD. i ran Dos-shel and XTGOLD on it. man those where the days. i remember playing such cool games on it, the screen had two colors i think.. or maybe a few more with it was basically shades of yellow. i played a golf game, and i had Leasure suit larry one.. ehehe. Oh and battletech.. or battle tank.. one of the two. AND i also remember when the first pentiums came out in a pacardbell system. with those speakers on the monitor.. and windows 95.. what a crap system that was hey.. i kept saying DOS RULES!!! haha
