Excepting my HC 90 basic interpreter with tapes an all ...

loved to play Wolfenstein and the like on that machine ...

First Rig: IBM (Back when they still made Home PC's)
486DX2 - 50Mhz; 4MB RAM; 250MB HD; 2x CD-ROM; SB16; integrated graphics w/ .5 or 1MB VRAM

Now:
C2D E6600@3Ghz; 2GB RAM; 500GB HD; 18x DVD-RAM; SB Audigy2 Plat; ATI x1950 Pro w 256MB

I had this really cool abacus that had different colored pieces of wood. It was cool. Only problem is I over clocked it once and it broke....

Dang someone already posted abacus.................................. 8O

Atari 800!!!

I loved the Star Raiders game. It came in a ROM cartridge that you plugged into the left ROM slot. I upgraded the RAM to 48K. Never did try to overclock it though. Check out the sig below.

Did you get the floppy disk or tape drive?

The P60 and P66 predate the P75 and where actually built on a different die. It had simular pin spacing like a 486, but was bigger. I think it was the biggest CPU I've ever seen.

I remeber seeign a Pentium Pro a few years ago (when it was already opsolete), they were HUGE !

here is a pic i found:

MY first computer used an 8086 processor.

The first computer I "used" was circa '79 and gosh only knows what processor was installed.

The first computer that I actively used had an 8088 processor.

My favorite computer was 286 processor. It was such a huge improvement over the 8088 and 8086 processors.

My first computer was a laptop Toshiba, 386 with 2 ram, black and white screen 12'' Lcd. It was ownage in that time, i still have it, and it still working lol. I have a Microsoft Word on 2-3 Floppy disk with is retail box with a price of 389$. Then later i receive a p133 with the game ZPC and Shadow Warrior, good old time 🙂

my first laptop was this piece of shite.

i also had a TI 99 4A $300 before $100 rebate. for storage i had a am/fm tape deck. it made noises like an old dial up modem while it took forever to save a program. i wanted an extended basic cartrige in the worst way but that was beyond my means at the time.

The first computer I really worked with was the family computer, it was compact presario 486 sx 25 MHz. HHD was 6.4 gig and it had 8 meg of ram. It was an all inclusive box à la McIntosh. Later on the only upgrade it got was a Math Co CPU boosting performance at DX50. It just died on my Father a few weeks ago. Now I am building something new for him with the odd bits and pieces I have lying around the house. I think he'll see some differences between the old horse and the new P4 3.0 GHz he's going to get. I remember being obliged to start the computer with a floppy bootable disk to play some games because they required over 600 k of low memory out of 640 k available.

My own first system was a P-I 100 MHz PC clone. HHD was 40 gig and 256 meg of RAM. Not sure but I think the GPU was an ATI Rage something with 4 or 8 meg of video ram.

Atari 400 - when they first came out they were $500 or so. 6502 processor, 16K RAM. Cartridge games - Space Invaders, QIX, Pac Man. And Atari basic. The plastic membrane keyboard. Was jealous of my friend's 800XL. Hooked up to a TV, two joystick ports. That was living!

Cassette drive.

We've come a long way baby.

My dad had a friend who was a computer nut, worked on Burroughs(?) mainframes for a living. He had in no particular order - TRS-80, Apple II's of many flavors, IBM-PC XT and AT. Hosted a BBS from his house, kind of a primitive IM system. Totally mind-boggling at the time. If you have to ask what BBS stands for, you're too young......

Timex Sinclair 1000
Zilog Z80 @ 3.25 MHz
A whopping 2Kb RAM

I still have it too. A few years back, the RF modulator failed. Shortly after that, I found some plans for a Composite Video modification for it on the internet. And now... no more TV/Game switch. 8)

I still prefer my old Commodore SX-64 over all computers.

Commodore SX-64
1MHz MOS 6510
64Kb RAM
170KB 5.25" Floppy
5" Color CRT
S-Video out
Composite Video out
Serial Bus (daisy chain upto 4 devices)
2 Joystick ports
Built in Speaker
Cartridge port

I had a GX180pro with a 200mhz intel processor with a 1mb cache on a stick. This computer was pretty good at streaming video, but with other things it was slllooowwwww as all heck.A couple years later I built my first computer consisting of a socket 462 msi k7t266 pro2 ru mb and a 950 amd duron processor.Huge difference.LOL.Anyways that's my adition to this thread.
