i'm planning to build a gaming computer within the next few months and atm im researching and learning what will work best for me. ive dealt with single HD for a good while but i was wandering as far as speed and practicality goes what would be best for gaming?

this is what i have in mind.

a single HD - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

2 HD's in raid 0 - Western Digital RE4 500GB

SSD boot and 1 HD - OCZ Vertex 3 60gb and Western Digital Caviar Black 500gb

im not sure what would work best for me atm but any incite would be much appreciated.

Well if you're considering 1TB, you really have to go with the Samsung Spinpoint F3 because it has better platter density. It's only $60 and will perform better than the Western Digital: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185

If you can afford a SSD.. windows 7 will take up at least 20gb max.. and each games average 7-8gb.. could be more lol I keep them on my external HDD so I never bother checking :) I wouldn't go for the OCZ.. I would purchase a Crucial m4 instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441

I too am trying to set up a Gaming System and I am really unfamiliar with SSD drives at all. Would I be putting my OS, MS Office, and Games on the SSD 128g drive (rather a small drive?) and use the 1TB drive for other stuff? My build which I intend to purchase this week would be listed below

Games which will be played on this system (BF3, CODxx, Diablo III, Skyrim)

CPU - Intel 2600 I7
MB - ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 15000)
GPU - EVGA 03G-P3-1584-AR GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 3072MB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support
PSU - CORSAIR Professional Series HX1050 1050W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified
CASE - COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced RC-932-KKN5-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Compucase Case with USB 3.0

HDD ?? or SSD ?

Wintermint - listed Crucial M4 Drive.
Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2CCA 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2CCA 2.5"
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148448 (199.00 usd)

How are Intel SSD Drives? 510 series 120gig = 279.00 usd
250gig = 579.00 usd

or do I do a Raid 0 (2x Hdds 64meg cache) or Raid 10 (4x Hdds)

Western Digital Caviar Black WD7502AAEX 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (65.00 each)

Any Help would be most appreciated. I am looking for Ease of Setup overall...

lol im building mine for Skyrim too!!!

i've heard ssd's dont handle applications like games very well but im not sure how true that is... honestly i was going to go with a 60gb ssd boot and pretty much only use it for the boot.
