So what web server-software would folk recommend ?

...prefereably complete with a friendly GUI/admin for setup, website management, and easy maintainance.

Give us an idea as to what you want to do with it for a better recommendation.

Redhat server is the most used but Ubuntu server is closing the gap. Website management can easily be accomplished via a CMS (content management system) like Joomla or Drupal. Overall server management is simplified via Webmin.

I want to host a few websites, In the past I've used commercial hosting sites that used Linux + the Sun/BlueQuartz CMS.
These were easy to use, to add websites & update webpages etc.

Please let me know, if there's something specific you need to know.
