It really depends on the internals of the device. Anything from nothing, to operating fine, to shorting several wires out an ruining the device entirely.

You should be fine. The voltage is the key thing here. A 6 Amp adapter is capable of supplying that much amperage, but it doesn't push it through the system. If the device you are powering requires a peak of 2 amps, that's all that will be pulled from the adapter.
