most decent motherboards nowadays have inputs for up to a 5.1 setup on the rear I\O.
getting 3.5mm adapters for both should allow 2.1 output to the speakers.

Wow I can't believe i never noticed that.. So I have five 3.5 ports and they're labeled as: Rear, c/sub, mic in, line out, and line in. Im guessing I should connect it to c/sub. What should i plug my speakers into? They're currently connected to my monitor

Well I'm not getting any signal to it from the c/sub jack. I've tried connecting it to the line out port and it works perfectly fine. Windows and realtek register that something is plugged into the c/sub port. I went into the Asus audio control and set it to 5.1 and made sure subwoofer was selected, still nothing

Edit: When I use the test feature in the audio console the sub works fine

Edit 2: Updating audio drivers didn't fix it.
