What would be a good CPU and GPU combo for gaming at around $300?

Just as not to be confused, I mean just the CPU and GPU combined totaling up to $300.

What I am currently looking at is the MSI Rx 480 at $180 with a $30 discount at jet.com and the new hyperthreaded i3 7100 for $120.

My question is, should I downgrade my GPU to say, maybe a 1050 ti or Rx 470 in order to buy a true quad-core CPU, and if so which ones?

EDIT: I'd also like to note that a CPU would be preferably socket 1151, as I already have my eyes on some cheap H110's, but I'm open to suggestions!

G4560 is the new budget cpu, basically an I3 for half price. You need to have the h110 bios updated before you install any kabylake. Grab some 2400 DDR4. It compares to the I3 6100 and the older I5 2500K. http://wccftech.com/intel-pentium-g4560-ultimate-budget-cpu-65-usd/

If this is a gaming/daily pc the G4560 or I3 is fine, if you render or encode then you want more cores/threads. and the G4560 makes an excellent stop gap processor until you need or save up for an I7 later. G4560 seems to drive 1060 gpu fine, but 1080 level graphics need quad cores to make them sing.
