What would be a good oc for amd athlon x4 860k under these conditions?

I have an AMD Athlon x4 860k with a gigabyte ultra-durable f2a88x-d3h motherboard and for cooler I have a cooler master hype TX3. Under these conditions I am currently running the stock frequency of 3.7 GHz and with this cooler the temp of the CPU cores on idle is about 40 degrees Fahrenheit - max 80 degrees Fahrenheit. What would be a good overclock for this?

40 Fahrenheit means you are in Winter with no heating or live in an igloo. Do you mean Centigrade?

How are you measuring temperatures? Download (free) AMD Overdrive software and let us know what the Thermal Margin is. Other software can be unreliable.

4.5Ghz is very doable at under 1.5V, but each chip is different and I'm not sure what your temperatures will be.

I don't believe the 80C at load (unless your cooler needs to be installed better) Use AMD Overdrive and tell us what your thermal margin is and then we can give better advice.

My thermal margin when only running overdrive is about 45c-55c i have now overclocked to 4.2 ghz)
