I'm thinking about upgrading my gpu in the next month or so, and I was wondering which gpu would be best with about a €280 budget

Current system:
AMD-FX6100
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX
Sapphire HD6850 2GB
Kingston ValueRAM KVR1333D3N9K2/8G
600W PSU
Sharkoon T9 Value Case
Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST500DM002, 500GB
(also gonna get a 2TB hard drive aswell since this one is almost full)

I'm stuck between the R9 280x from MSi and the GTX 770 from MSi (they're exactly the same price right now)

I'm not sure which one would fit best with my system, or maybe if another GPU would be better

Thanks

Your psu is strong enough for either, though what people fail to mention is the 770 requires 42 amps on the 12v rail, while the 280x requires only 32

so for psu quality reasons as well as performance reasons due to mantle combined with your cpu setup, the 280x is the clear choice in terms of performance

What exactly is the PSU? They are not all made equal, a cheap no brand might struggle and cause problems.
Mantle aside, both cards perform similarly although the GTX770 is likely to be cooler and quieter.
If you're prepared to run at merely very high rather than ultra settings in the MOST demanding of games, the GTX760 is a less expensive option and you could probably get the new HDD at the same time while staying within the £280 budget.

Mantle has been released and actual performance + system specs for the performance, numbers have been released. The boost is not big with powerful processors like the i7's, but even the 8350 gets a 25% fps increase with a 7970 (290x) and with a lower end cpu the performance increase goes up even more. Of course these numbers are from dice, but they are much more clear about the actual performance over what amd was doing before.

so even the 270x will now beat the 760 in all mantle applications. I was very skeptical of mantle at first, but with the performance increase I now have no doubt that nvidia will either have to develop their own api (not likely) or adopt mantle, which can be done in later card generations, all they have to do is research how to do it, as it's free to adopt.

I have an OCZ PSU,

and I read about mantle but didn't know it was just released today, looks like i'll be getting the 280x then, thanks guys.

and i also noticed the Sapphire R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 TOXIC which is priced at €300, would it be worth the extra €20-30 to get that version or would the performance difference not be notticable?
