[SOLVED] What would cause HDMI audio to disappear in Ubuntu 22.04?

Atopnuc Mini PC, AMD A9 9400, 8GM RAM. 128GB SSD.

I've had this thing for exactly 3 days. I have it in an 8 port HDMI KVM. Sound worked fine at least part of the day yesterday. I even watched a few YouTube video and some stuff off of my media server just to make sure. At some point audio quit. I checked the setting, Pulse Audio, and Alsa control panel and it looks as if HDMI audio simply does not exist to switch to as an output now.

The only thing I installed after listening to the sound work was Virtualbox.

I am reading something about an "old sound distro problem" in a few reviews. Any workaround for this?

First thing you should be doing is to update to the latest Ubuntu release (22.10 Kinetic Kudu). Your issue may well have been addressed there.
