I just bought a GTX 770 for $110 pretty good buy imo and currently i have a i5 3570 with a 660 in it on 720p now i know the 770 can high settings games in 1080p but what would happen if i put it in a 720p display? Will there be tearing?

(Will be upgrading to a 1080p panel but not now maybe in like 4-6 months)

People in that group have no idea what they are talking about.

Tearing happens when your FPS is higher than the refresh rate of your display.
e.g., if you have a 60Hz display, but get 100 FPS in games. That's where you get tearing.

GPUs have absolutely nothing to do with resolution. You can also play on 800x600, the GPU doesn't care.
