What would the best graphics card around $300

I am looking for a card that I can upgrade from my last one, power and heat is not an issue. I just want to play major games at high settings with high frame rate. I am leaning towards NVIDIA because of their stupid partnering with game companies that end up with horrific AMD optimization.

Around $340 you can get a GTX 970. That extra $$ is worth it.

GTX 970 hands down. Evga offers a great choice in different GTX 970 flavors. IDLE and low load your GPU fans are off... low power usage... under your budget.

If you absolutely cannot go above $300, 290x.

But, as per recommended, I would also recommend saving that little bit extra and get 970, has more features, and is directx 12 supported.

280x maybe (Not entirely sure on this one, but nVidia cards are a bit lacking in that range at the moment).

280X for sure in the $200 range. No other competition there.
