Hello users of Tomshardware!

This is my current rig:

  • Graphics Card: EVGA GTX 780 SC
    CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5Ghz
    RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 Mhz
    HDD: 2x500GB + 1TB + 2x20GB (Unsure of the brands)
    Case: Bitfenix Ghost Chassis
    Mobo: ASRock z77 Extreme 4
    PSU: Corsair CX600M Series
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1
    Mouse: Steelseries Rival
    Keyboard: Corsair Raptor K30.

I feel as if my system is lacking whilst playing certain games. I feel as if I should be able to play BF4 on Ultra easily with these settings but I can't, let alone record at 1080P 60FPS (Even struggle to play above 60 ish on some maps).

The main indication that popped into my head that could be providing some form of issue is my primary hard drive. but then I thought normally, most people with a rig like mine tend to have 750 watt PSU's

The main thought to my hard drive being part of the issue is when I benchmark my HDD on DXtory. Most people I know are reaching 250+ MB/sec benchmarks with 7200RPM HDD's yet my benchmarks struggle to make 110 MB/sec

I feel like there is a lot more strength in my system yet it feels like something is holding it back or something is missing.

Budget is currently not an issue as long as its nothing silly like £1000 for one single thing.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Reaperr :)

Your processor is fine but I would overclock that up to the 4.2/4.4 area, for ultra change the video card but yours should do fine if you can stand high settings, get a higher quality power supply not a must but the CX series are rather low quality, add a SSD for the operating system and your main games ADD another 120mm fan to the front of the case blowing in.

Your system looks fine, with the exception of the PSU, but it's unlikely to be an issue with system performance unless it's not providing clean, ripple free power. You already have a lot of storage so I hesitate to recommend an SSD but it does give the whole thing a nice boost. An SSD for OS and programs with a regular drive for bulk storage is the method we prescribe for most people around here unless they have specific storage needs. If it was my system I'd ditch the two 20GB drives and install a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD on SATA port 1 with a clean install of the OS on it. Add your main programs and favorite games and use the other drives for lesser progs and pics, vids etc. Lastly, be sure to update Nvidia drivers for your 780 but that goes without saying.

I wouldn't need the Cooler Master Nepton as I already have a Corsair H100i. Would you recommend that GPU for recording @ 1080P/60FPS + for use with Sony Vegas Pro 13? Also, do you think changing the PSU would make much of a noticeable difference as you said its not a must? This is my current system ( http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/FT23TW ) and as you can see, the recommended power consumption is around 470 watts Would you also recommend an OS change? as I have been told 8.1 runs games a lot better.
