Finally!!! I have some $ for a new build
I have a $1500 budget and these are my picks : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/vDLU
I havent done that for a while thus I am a bit behind the curve, so I would really appreciate some pointers from you guys/gals.
EDIT_01: Wow .. you guys were quick I wasn't expecting that at all... especially considering the time (6AM) I made the post !! You guys are awesome
I should have explained that to begin with ... my bad, sorry.
OK first off, gaming is not the top priority here (just competent enough to rock next gen. CIV and Total War titles.)
but the virtualization performance is. I like to use a single purpose (multi-boot) set ups for, gaming, audio editing, coding (learning), office & (amateur) Photoshop, entertainment, testing stuff... etc. with their own dedicated (VHD) boot option. I get the most out of my PC when I organize my system this way but as you may have guessed it, switching among the boots every time for a different task is ... bit of a drag (to say the least)
With my new build, I'd like to run 2 systems simultaneously "comfortably" and then just simply shut down the VirtualBox when I want to play a game or struggle with Steinberg.
That is why I went with i7 instead of i5 by the way.
Fractal Design Arc Midi = $59 ---- Cooler Master
Storm Stryker $127 ..... [Heart] [wallet]
Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme 81.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler: why? speak! (turns the spot light on bigcyco1) what do you know that I dont ... what did I miss ? which would justify the $40 extra?
G.Skill
F3-1600C9D-8GAB ---> 8Gig CAS9 ... $45 ($90 if 16GiG)
G.Skill
F3-12800CL7Q-16GBZM ---> 16GiG CAS7 ... $130
I think CAS difference justifies the $40 bump ... agree?
GeForce GTX 670 ... is awesome (also 3 monitor capable) ... I will try my hardest to scrounge enough coin to buy one ... but say; one 7870 now then second 7870 later is a good plan B?
SeaSonic
M12II 620 Bronze: Efficiency Certification ---> 80 PLUS Bronze ... Efficiency > 87% ... ($89)
Thermaltake
TPG-650M: Efficiency Certification 80 PLUS Gold ... Efficiency < 90% ... ($104)
$15 diff. worth it?
also for the love of FSM please tell me what does 42 mean?
h100i has static fan RPM of 2700 while h100 has a variable fan speed option ... 1300 - 2500 RPM. This was the deciding factor between the two.
I agree single high end GPU instead of 2 mid range would yield better gaming performance but I have BUT ... first, probably I wont be able to afford to buy 2 7870s right away but instead get one now then the second a couple months down the road. Second, I use 3 monitors and lack of 3rd DVI-I/HDMI is a head ache ... I figured I should crossfire or sli my next build.

AMD Radeon: i would go with corsair h100i (with i) newer version
and get single 7970 or gtx 680 instead of dual card
