Hello. My names Snake Plissken, ( would like to take a moment and say it's my first post, I have obtained info from tomshardware for hundreds of years now and I love you guys, and thanks for haveing me )

(If I could get some general advice, advice, help, answers, or comments of any nature as I go about setting this thing up it would be so appreciated and I'll do what I can to give back. At the same time I'm extremely autistic and as such A.: I'll be appreciative of any comments of any nature, helpful or otherwise. B: sorry if I posted this within a incorrect spot in the forums. And C: sorry for any spelling or sentence formatting and punctuation errors within this post. )

---

I am in possession of a Dell m9dgr poweredge r810 server-system board. It has 4 E7-8891 CPUs, 32 gigabytes of 8 by 4 gigabyte Ddr3 at 1066MHz

What would someone like you do with the same system? Let me know anything. If, what you would do with this same system would require a addon to the system outside of what was stated please feel free to tell me/us still, what you would do and the addon needed.

(Note: I'm into doing anything from gameing to nuclear simulations useing underground exsplosions, and anything in between. in my free time I prefer developing 3D softwares and playing video games on windows 7. It would be interesting to know of a way to pull of such on this power edge but it's not my primary computation or gameing system so not needed though would always be nice to have more cores dedicated towards gameing development, Augmented reality development, or the both of developing a virtual reality inviroment for use in programming A artificial intelligence, )

Thanks you guys for any comments. Tomshardware4lif

EDIT: I think my question is what would someone in there right mind do or have done with something like this 😉 thanks.

Solution
My point was that it may have proprietary connectors for power, front panel, fans, etc. The infrastructure that is in an R810 chassis. Without the fan subsystem (for instance) it might not start-up. Lots of potential problems trying to use the motherboard out of it's infrastructure.

For instance, looking at pictures, the back panel I/O ports are on a separate board. Do you have that board connected also or just the CPU board ? Pictures here -- http://www.garlandcomputers.com/?product=dell-poweredge-r810-motherboard-m9dgr-0m9dgr
(Am I replying to your comment correctly ? If not I'll fix it.) first thanks for the comment Kanewolf ,I believe im very familiar with your name over the years of reading the tomshardware forums. I'll form a biter understanding of what I have when I'm back at it's locations. It says here it's a Dell m9dgr poweredge r810 system server motherboard. The CPUs are seated in four lga1567 sockets. I'll update the post I made as needed when I'm back around may help if I add pictures. Thanks again.

Solution
It seems I just have the board with no removable parts outside of the CPUs installed, the heat sinks on top of the cpu, and the memory ports ( or dimm slots ) all have memory installed I have come to learn that a proprietary power supply IS needed. And it seems it will not turn on unless a LCD display or some type of led warning screen is installed and potentially other things may need to be present aswell that I'm not aware of yet. However I have the means to obtain anything needed for this at whim. Thank you for your follow up comment, really helped. Here in a few I'll be going about compiling a list of anything that can be install onto this board, what's best, so I could then know what I need to go back and obtain. Thus haveing this thing up and running, I may just end up virtualizing a private network (under or on top of a few other tricks) and dedicating it through a connection to one of my favorite online community's ; heha but will see. I'll drop a update here as progress is made. The comments you provided kanewolf has assisted me and it is something I'll remember. In a side note: no worrys if not but if you have any suggestions towards cards, peripherals, addons, parts, ect. That I should use with this and/or what you would do with it, let me know, your opinion or suggestions would be held very very high. That being staid you've helped a lot in the bit of comments you made, no wounder you are a admin. Thnx again.

what kind of chassis does this motherboard use? i need to run some massively parallel machine learning algos and looking for budget infrastructure. I can get m9dgr and cpus on ebay, but can't figure out what chassis can it use (no one is selling the mobo with the chassis)

You will be much better off buying a supermicro, Intel, or Asus dual socket motherboard. They have standard connections for power and I/O. If you get a dual socket workstation motherboard then you won't need a PCIe riser, you will get standard PCIe slots.
