I'm installing Adobe Photoshop 7.0, problem is a valid classic environment has not been detected.

I'm still a cadet on OS X Snow Leopard so would appreciate any help

Solution
The Classic Environment was a way to run old OS 9 programs on OS X. I'm afraid that it was dropped with Leopard and Snow Leopard so you won't be able to run your program. Time to get a more up-to-date version (or else install Tiger on your Mac).
It also is necessary to run certain programs and games on the Mac. The only way to do it now is to have a partitioned drive with OS9 on one with OSX on the other. Only if you have stuff that will only run in Classic, of course.

I'm afraid that you are rather stuck. If your Mac is recent (and certainly if it is running Snow Leopard) then it uses Intel chips and cannot run the Classic Environment. There is a version of Tiger available for these machines but it doesn't contain the Classic Environment. I think that you only have two choices:

1. Buy a more recent version of Photoshop.

2. Buy an old second-hand Mac (make sure that it is one based on the PPC chip) just to run Photoshop.

Not a good answer, I realize, but the best I can do.

Thanks for that Jack... I actually have a G3 which has Photoshop 7 running on it so until we come out of recession I'll have to stick with!
Maybe you can help me with one more problem - I tried installing an Epsom scanner on the imac but again it won't install... am I correct in assuming a conflict with old and new again and have you any suggestions?

Thanks again, Eilis

I'm afraid that I don't know the answer to your scanner question but I suspect, as you say, that it's just a question of age. Scanners, in particular, seem to be badly supported once they are more than a few years old. (If it's any consolation this is just as true for Windows.) If it works on your G3 I'd leave it there - particularly if that's where you'll be running Photoshop. But, if you're feeling adventurous, have a look at this link.

I'm glad that you have a no-cost solution to your problem even if it's not the most convenient one.

Thanks a million... it looks a bit daunting but I'll give it go in case I can get to upgrade Photoshop in time. Eilis
