What's a good computer for various Autodesk programs and Photoshop?

I'm not very literate in the world of computers and I've been hurting my brain trying to pick apart the internet for what I'm looking for. Basically, I need to know what would be good options for a computer that can handle various Autodesk programs (Maya, Mudbox, 3dsMax mainly) and Photoshop. A laptop is preferred because the mobility is a HUGE plus for me but I know customized desktops can run circles around a any laptop for half the price (usually?). Gathering parts and having a designated spot for my computer is a huge turn-off but I'll still consider it.

Oh, and when I say "I'm not very literate in the world of computers. . ." I mean my understanding is pretty much that of an infant... so, yes, it's safe to assume that you can talk to me like a simpleton when explaining everything.

But my school starts in two months and I really, really need a computer and I'm terrified of pouring cash into a badass computer just to find out it can't do what I need it to do.

EDIT: My budget is around $2000 and I live in the U.S, if that helps any.

For those with more knowledge it would be handy if they knew what sort of budget you have for this, and which country you're in.

As far as my own understanding goes, some of that software favour Intel CPUs more. It doesn't sound like you're looking to build a PC but to look for a prebuilt PC (eg. Dell, HP) which suits your needs, or a laptop.

Well I was prepared to spend $2600 on a laptop but I think that's the cut off. Honestly I wouldn't like anything costing more than $2000. And I live in the U.S.
