I think I got rid of the viruses on my PC after reformatting my internals and reinstalling Windows 10. I may have an infected flash and external hard drive I used earlier, though. Is there a safe way to get rid of the viruses and maintain the files on the external drives so I can transfer them back to my internals without infecting my PC?

Wiping out the virus is easy. Delete all partitions on it.
Maintaining the files on that drive while doing so is near impossible.

What is infected, if not the actual files?

I dont know for sure that there are viruses on these drives, but one of them was inserted when my main pc was infected and the to get a couple important files backed up and the other might have been. It would be nice to recover all those files, but I guess if it's not possible i'll just have to format the drives.
