I bought a new desktop that has a single band wirelesss LAN 802.11b/g/n.
My internet is running really slow on the desktop compared to my other laptop. My WiFi on the desktop only goes up to two-three bars while my laptop gets all 5.
So I was wondering, does the single band LAN have anything to do with my weak WiFi signal on the desktop? If so, would an internet booster fix the problem or would I have to buy another router?

Solution
It has probably more to do with the wifi module on the pc.Try to get the latest drivers.
You could go into the router (via it's ip nr.) and try to choose a different channel (fixed) to see if this helps a little.
A signal booster (=range extender/accespoint),as you call it,halfway might help.Something you only know by trying. You could also try power lines.
A Dutch site, but the partnrs. should be the same,

or for an accespoint/range extender,
