Hi, I have a 1070 G1 with a i5-6500 (bottlenecked as fuck) so i wanna change my CPU but i can't really tell, whats a better CPU when it comes to value/performance, a 1500x or a 1600x? i'm kinda on a tight budget right now, any help would be really appreciated. or if there are any other good options for my 1070

Hey thanks for you answer, my current specs are 1070 G1, i5 6500, 16gb ddr4 RAM, h110m motherboard, i also have to switch the motherboard any way because one ram slot is dead on my mobo, so i thought i might aswell upgrade the CPU and change mobo to a AM4 socket instead of changing the motherboard to a LGA 1151 and being stuck with a 25% bottleneck, will cores make a big difference? my budget isn't clear as i live in Egypt (PC stuff prices are very different to the western market) for example a 1070 might cost $400 in the US but it'd cost around 600++ here, so budget isn't really clear

Well, if you can, take the 1600x. Even the 1600 would do because it is overclockable. But I would hold off for a bit because the 3xxx series is slated to release at CES in Jan and prices may reduce. Also, have you considered the 2xxx? The 2600 is a pretty good cheap.

The RAM you have now DDR4, but Ryzen works best with 3000Mhz RAM so consider selling off your current motherboard, RAM and CPU to fund for the new upgrade.

What is your PSU?

EVGA 500w bronze, i'm not really thinking of waiting for the new series just because of how high the prices will be here for me, won't be worth it at all, also won't really be able to sell my current mobo for much considering the dead RAM slot, will try for sure tho, is the 1500x not overclockable btw?

I know, but my budget allows either a 1500x or 1600x

I'm having to switch mobo anyway since mine has a dead RAM slot meaning i'm stuck on 8gb for the time being instead of 16

Oh ok i didn't realise h110m only has two dimm slots. i assumed you had at least two out of four working when you said earlier your current specs included 16GB ram. Sorry about that.

8GB and single channel is definitely hurting. I reckon too, full steam ahead for new mobo / Ryzen.
