What's the advantage of an open air case for a PC?

What's the advantage of an open air case for a PC? Wouldn't that expose your PC to dust, moisture, and other contaminants?

it's still summer here , and i'm too lazy to buy a new cpu paste and too careless to clean off the old paste with some alcohol , i simply can;t do that , so i did like what you said and with my limited budget 6600K it crashes less when launching a game to the black screen

The advantage is that you get a constant flow of cool air, the ease of swapping out components constant access tot he motherboard. But you are correct that open cases do get dustier and need to be cleaned much more often.

no i'm dead serious , i have an 6600k with a single fan liquid cooler , and it always crashes to a black screen even in games as old as cod mw3 , but since i changed the arrangements to an open air , it crashes less even if i launch a game like doom

It "looks cool" and it is easier to dissipate heat.

The disadvantages are numerous from dust to moisture, to accidentally dropping something in it that will damage your components.

Its a good art piece, not practical in real life.

I use a Lian Li T60 as a test bench and even ran my main gaming rig in it for a while. Cooling was good with the added front fan mount, but it does get dirty and you need to make sure that no pets or kids can get to it and that nothing around will fall into it.

Well it you have gold components it will look cool like those tube amplifiers.

I know for a fact, open case wo fan runs HOTTER than case with fan. So even if open, you must have fan(s) blowing directly into the heatsink(s).

There is no advantages of an open case to anyone but ppl using a test bench who swap out parts in a continuous cycle. Dust is not an issue except for testbench or open desktop designs that aren't running, where falling dust can settle directly onto the components. Dust has a hard time traveling sideways, so desktop towers don't suffer much if any from falling dust as the gpu/cpu coolers and case fans create enough turbulence to keep any falling dust away. If you have a desk fan blowing directly into your tower, well that's a separate issue.
Humidity. Hah, non issue. There's 0 change in water density from air sucked into a case by intake fans, and open air cases. Air is air, it's all the same. So is the humidity.

Case temps vary between cases, airflow and ambient temps, coolers, cpus etc. Cases with crappy airflow tend to run hotter enclosed than if they were open. Cases with good airflow can run cooler enclosed than open. Either can happen easily. Simply too many variables to give a definitive answer to that.
