What's the best AMD cpu?

I was just wondering what the best AMD CPU for gaming would be?
I've never had an AMD before, but im building a Computer with an AMD right now, so I'd like to know which would be the best pick for me

the Phenom II 955 is an excellent choice, it has an unlocked multiplier for easier OCing, it has the same headroom as the 965 for less. As most games arent CPU limited the 955 performs similarly to the i7 and i5 in most games.

I think that means you were looking at the 940 which is AM2+ only and came out a few months prior to the originally 955

I would suggest getting this version of the 955 as it is just an improved version of the one with more reviews on it, it will run slightly cooler and give you slightly more head room to OC. The 955 is AM3 so it will work with AM2+ boards and AM3 boards, the 940 will not work on AM3 boards as it lacks a DDR3 memory controller.
