What’s the best antivirus software?
Is Microsoft Defender Antivirus better than using AVG or just as good?

It all depends on the features you want. Microsoft Defender works fine for what it offers; however, other vendors provide extra layers of security such as secure web browsers and other features that can prevent malicious files from downloading to your computer.

I generally like windows defender these days. It’s unobtrusive and doesn’t get in the way much. That said you need to use common sense with any antivirus you use. But I do like using Adblock plus on my browsers and using DuckDuckGo as the default search engine.

Seconding @ohio_buckeye

Windows Defender/Security is all that should be needed.

Perhaps Malwarebytes for occassional backup scans and checks.

Key is to always have good, up-to-date backups. Proven readable and recoverable.

How is it unobtrusive?

It is not constantly bugging you about whatever.

Defender + a bunch of functioning brain cells is most of what you need.
Maybe uBlock or AdBlock+ as an addition.

Exactly as the guy above said. Windows defender by and large does not seem to nag you every 5 seconds to sell something etc. It’s usually set it and forget it, run an occasional scan.

Hello!

Windows Defender does its job pretty well.

I wouldn't use antiviruses like:
AVG, Avast, McAfee, or Norton!
(These are worse than Windows Defender!)

I am using, and I am pleased with, ESET Smart Security.

Defender is one of the better AVs out there these days. I think ESET is still considered the best, but probably not worth a subscription.

I co-sign using things like uBlock when browsing, which will protect against most things before they even get to the PC.
