if you want a truly free option - use winrar (trial) to extract the files from the ISO then burn them to a CD using the windows cd writing wizard.

Personally I use nero, you can find oem versions for £5 in the uk and even new dvd burners with the premium version for less than £35.

If you want to extract the contents of the ISO to modify and/or view the files contatined in it, then go with 7-zip (as mentioned by DeVastatoR_UK). If you want to burn the ISO to a CD/DVD, then I recommend CDBurnerXP. No malware, has plenty of features, and easy to use (with the help file, at least 😉 ). Hope this is what you need!

you cant simply extract files from the ISO, you have to burn the ISO using a program, (as someone mentioned in this thread, CDBurnerXP is a great one)

@inspector, its probably incompatible because you probably downloaded the wrong bit, if your using 64 bit, and downloaded 32bit windows 7 RC, you wont be able to run it, and vice versa

An ISO contains the file/directory structure and all other data of a DVD/CD in a single file. If you've ever imaged your hard drive, it is basically the same concept. When you "burn" the ISO to an optical disk the software extracts the directory structure and data and writes it to the disk. If you open the disk in Windows Explorer after burning you'll see all the files on it how they should be. You just need to make sure you don't burn the ISO as part of a data disk or it will simply copy the ISO file on there which is useless.

Yeah, ISOBuster rocks, too been using it since version 0.99 -- great if you dont wanna burn the disc
