There are multiple versions of gt 1030 which one should I get and also are you sure it's going to work and is there anything I can check to make sure that it will work and be compatible?

Avoid the models equipped with DDR4/SDDR4 Vram. They are gimped versions of the original(GDDR5). Beyond that, it's not going to matter which.

Your strongest option would be a GTX1050ti.
It is a 75w card. and you have a 300w psu which is barely ok.
It needs to be a basic version that is not factory overclocked needing aux 6 pin power.

Considering how old it is now, the retail GTX 1050Ti is overpriced - would need to check the 2nd hand market for better deals.
A retail GTX 1650 would be cheaper, but considering how old that system is, I wouldn't feel comfortable putting that in there with the current psu.
Depending on the make and model, the 1050Ti and 1650 can pull at least 15w more than the OP's current gpu.

Yup. GTX1650 would be another card and it is a bit stronger.
