What's the best graphics card / GPU for $320?

My budget is $320. Leaning towards the Nvidia 970. Seems more games are taking advantage of nvidia features, hairworks, physx. What do you guys think?

Either the R9 290X or the 970.

There is only one R9 290X GPU around that price range, and that's the XFX one. It doesn't really have that good of ratings on performance.

Should be fine on the PSU.

Grab a GTX 970 for ~300-330$. They're some of the best price-to-performance cards out there right now, and they will fully support DirectX 12 when it comes out. Which is shaping up to be a big deal.

Yes. All the 900 series maxwell cards as well as the Titan X will fully support DX12.

Any mainstream aftermarket variant of the GTX 970 would be great for the price point.
I personally use the Strix version.

The 290X is too much of a power hog for my cheap ass power supply.

it is not a power hog, it is turning electricity into pure energy.... heat energy...
just get a 650 watt+ PSU.
