According to Dell, my Inspiron N5050 laptop can only support up to the Core i5-2350M. But the socket type is G2 or rPGA988B, in which a lot of mobile CPUs including i7s. Which i7 mobile CPU would work best on my N5050? And what dual channel speeds does it allow?

EDIT: My BIOS Version is A05, and would I be able to get a new fan that could handle the new CPU?

Thanks,

Just because you have the socket, it doesn't mean the BIOS or cooling is up to the task of a faster CPU. Often whatever CPU choices were available when buying the CPU are the only ones supported in the BIOS. And as I said, cooling might not be up to task. If it's designed to work on a 55W CPU and you drop in a 80W CPU, then it will just overheat anyways.

Also the laptop might not even be able to power it correctly.
