Whats the best Ram to put in my new mobo - Asus M4A78T-E

I've just got an Asus M4A78T-E mobo delivered

I had the DDR2 version of this motherboard but felt like an upgrade to DDR3 version!!


After researching, I'm stuck on deciding which ram to get out of these below. Which one would you say is the best and compatible?

Also shall I go with 1333Mhz or 1600Mhz? And CAS Latency: 9-9-9-24 or CAS Latency: 9-9-9-27

First one. Reason: #1 it's 16GB instead of 8 for only 15 more, but the only thing going for #2 is a CAS 8. #3 is nothing special and #4 is triple channel for LGA1366 Intel chips. Just make sure your heatsink and fan will clear the tall RAM.

And 1333 or 1600 will do fine if you go a different route, and the lower the CAS, the better the RAM (with exceptions).

I was going to get 16GB of ram anyway, I just posted them links so people can see each of the ram sticks I am comparing

Will 4x of 1600Mhz ram sticks work in my mobo??

I guess the 1600 sticks will default to 1333, and run at 1333 but if I go into the BIOS and change the settings I can then get the memory to clock at 1600??

Is that correct?

If you're going to get 16GB and have the extra money, then I'd go for 2 sets of #2. I thought it was just those exact links you were looking at. #2 is 1600 and has better timing. Again, check your HSF clearance before you pull the trigger.

Also when I bought the mobo of ebay the am2 bracket for the heatsink is missing, where can I get the orignal replacement?

I mean the whole bracket has gone off the actually mobo, where the heatsink sits onto. The black plastic surrounding

In that case, try contacting ASUS. If they can't help, they can point you the right way. Take a pic when you get it so they can see the exact piece you need replaced.

I find 2 sellers on ebay that are selling a Retention Bracket + Backpla​te. Hopefully I'd win it for £3 delivered.

Asus do a Retention Bracket replacement but its $12.99. I am in the UK so i don't know how much it would be in total with delivery....

Sounds good! You work like me, I do exactly the same thing!! Maybe not as much as you though 😀

I buy broken phones, laptops, ps3s etc and fix them up or use them as spare parts... Ebay is so good for parts that are so hard to find!! And its cheaper then ordering direct from the manufacturer, wouldn't you agree?

Lastnight I searched for sellers in the UK for an orignal Retention Bracket and 2 sellers came up so I contacted them, one of the sellers did a buy now price for me: £5 delivered
