Whats the best way to stress test AMD cpus

(NOTE it specifically says AMD) I want to stress test my AMD FX 8350
I hear prime95 isnt ideal for amd cpus

is it true, or when was it true?
Whats other programs can I use that
will quickly tell me if my OC is unstable
without frying my cpu?

well prime95 crashes on my fx8320 when i clock it over 4.6ghz... that's a pretty common problem for piledriver and prime95. I've found Intel Burn Test-AVX is probably the best stress test for piledriver out there.

i use prime95 to test my overclocks andi can tell you that yes some stable overclocks seem to failprime after a while but in general if prime run for more then 5 minutes with no ore failing then bingo you have a game/applications stableoverclock that will not crash under any ''normal'' workloads

I can't speak to AMD as I only tend to use for sub $850 builds and haven't been asked to do one in 2 years or more. But I find prime95 just about useless these days ..... with so much functionality being moved to the CPU on current CPUs, I just find that Prime95 stable does not mean what it used to. Also when dealing with Adaptive voltage control and AVX instructions are present (Haswell), you'll get a 0.10 or more voltage bump that if not paying attention can result in not nice things happening.

.... I mean I do like it to intentionally overheat my system so that I can "set" the TIM but other than that I don't find it does anything for me. What I mean is I usually set my OCs for a max core temp of 75C (now 74C at 4.6GHz on a 4770k) under Real Bench ...so running prime 95 with AVX, I can get that ah heck up to 84C .... nothing scary but it sets the TIM nicely and oft gets me as much as a degree or 2 lower temps at my max OC. particularly useful if ya have one of those extremely slow TIMs with curing time just short of forever (i.e AS5)

But again, I can be Prime95 stable (no AVX) for 8 hours and then get a crash running a single pass of RoG Real Bench .... better yet, I can be RoG Real Bench stable and then get repeated crashes under BF4. The only other game that has tripped up a stable RoG Benched system was metro 2033 and that was just at one single point in the game.... quite repeatable, but BF4 for whatever reason is a battle.

my overclocks sometimes fail prime after 5 or 10 minutes but i never crash in bf4 this game is rock solid for me..computers are so strange sometimes...

thank you guys. These were all good responses, I will try intel burn test! but like some of you said, you may fail prime but you games run fine, that is my case. I ran prime, and it failed after 1hr30mins but I continued to use the same OC without bumping up anything and I been running my game perfectly fine, not issues.

I will also let you guys choose the answer!

So is it safe to fail prime but have your games (bf4, arma 3) work or do i need to stablize the system.

Some people dont even test for stability so if its playing games fine there is certainly nothing wrong with it.

Make sure it's IBT-AVX... there is a generic intel burn test out there... that's simply no good for AMD testing. The AVX version however is excellent. Its fast too...

I use the 2nd hardest setting for a quick test (10 passes), if it passes, the system is probably stable enough for gaming and normal use. If you plan to be a bit more stressful with your system (folding or coin mining) or just want to be 100% certain it's completely stable, 20 successful passes on the hardest setting will do it.

IBT-AVX on the hardest setting, really gives your cpu cooler a workout as well; so you'll know if your cooling is good enough.

Use Prime 95, it is good for AMD CPU's as it is with Intel
