Whats the cheapest good one @1600x1200x85hz

I am looking for a second monitor and would prefer one that does 1600x1200x85hz.. im a stickler for 85hz anything less bothers my eyes.
I would also like it to be flat. Could either be 19 or 21inch.

My pick was a 21inch sony from newegg that runs $460.
I'm looking for the cheapest and thats the top of my price range but I've been looking into 19s as they are much cheaper, but cannot find one that is sub $220 thats flatscreen.
Feels like it defeats the purpose of saving money, and to just go with the biggun.

The KDS (sub 200) line looks like crap to me.

Well, I've just bought me a dell P1110 (21" with sony trinitron) at ebay for €250 (think it's about $275) and it does 1600*1200 at 85Hz. Maybe ebay or something is an option for you.

Wow, I didn't realize how hard it was to find 1600 x 1200 @ 85 Hz in a 19" monitor. I can't find anything even close to $220. The lowest priced CRT that I could find that meets your criteria is the <A HREF="http://www.viewsonic.com/products/crt_p95fplus.htm" target="_new">Viewsonic P95F+</A> (19"), 1600 x 1200 @87hz. $285 (free shipping) from Newegg.com.

I guess I should count myself lucky that I am not sensitive to flicker. 70 hz is comfortable to me. Widened my monitor options, (I could go cheap).

Thank you very much. I was having a hard time myself finding one.

I'm still saving up for one, its either $285 for the 19" or $460 for the 21" that I have my eye on. Its the cheapest sony on pricewatch.. looks like a decent monitor but nothing spectacular.

Ive been wondering about refresh, 75hz never used to bother me but I've been running 85 for years and it gives me headaches to not. Maybe I can get used to it again

It's probably not worth risking headaches just to save a few bucks.

One other thing, if you really need 1600x1200 resolution I'd go with a 21" monitor. I find text at 1600x1200 a little too small to be comfortable. That's just personal preference though.

That's why included with Windows is an ingenious control panel to change the size of text. I've tried out the P95F+B(same as the P95F+ but black). I didn't care for it. So much distortion even running at 1280x1024@85 (recommended rez). I sent it back and got 2 NEC FP912SB, very nice monitors.

True but some webpages have fixed size text, and very small.

Too bad about that P95F. I didn't know about the distortion.

I would prefer to see a monitor before buying one but there is just not enough variety in local stores.

I'm happy with the Viewsonic E95. It's just a budget 19" but it's great one. It is sharp, with good color, no dull or hot spots, no distortions or convergence problems (looks great all the way to the corners), has a decent 0.22 mm horizontal dot pitch, and it has all the control functions I need. Best of all it was cheap and it's not an AG monitor. (I hate those tension wires).

The downside: The control menu is cumbersome, the CRT is not flat, and max refresh at 1600x1280 is only 76 hz (not a downside for me).

I prefer 1280x960 vs 1280x1024 as the latter has a 5:4 aspect ratio instead of 4:3. This makes icons and photos look pinched.

Just taken delivery of a GNR 19" Pure Flat capable of 1600x1200@85 .25 from <A HREF="http://www.ebuyer.co.uk" target="_new">http://www.ebuyer.co.uk</A> only cost £117.50. So far so good, no dark spots etc and good pic to all corners. The only issue Im having at the moment is at 1600x1200@75 (cant seem to go higher??) is that the text seems to be a little blurry. Have tried messing about with the various focus options and I think Im getting there nut not sure if its just the text is so small it gets like that at said resolution or my eyes are actually starting to go (hope not!) or I just havent "tuned" the image correctly. OS controls seem thorough with plenty of opptions.

If your from the US then its <A HREF="http://www.ebuyer.com" target="_new">http://www.ebuyer.com</A> there product range is nowhere near as good as UK and cant comment on prices but are very reliable and may be worth a look.

That's a pet peeve of mine, monitor manufacturers giving a spec of say 1600x1200 @85 hz but it's blurry. Sure the monitor will display output but we can't use it.

It has gotten to the point where whenever the spec says one refresh rate I just ignore that refresh rate and assume 5 Hz or 10 Hz less. Sometimes it's worse than that.

OK sometimes it's poor RF filters on the video cards. Usually you can tell the difference because you get blurriness at all refresh rates at the highest resolution.

My monitors get a little blurry with time. Cleaning the VGA connector, using a little contact dressing, and seating the connect a few times cures that problem.

As for you not being able to get the highest refresh rate. Go to manufacturer's website and see if they have an update for the monitor's .inf file. It contains information like resolution and scan frequencies. Just add a new monitor and point Windows to the directory with the new .inf file.

You can download a utility called powerstrip which often "finds" missing refresh rates and resolutions. It can also be used to force the issue if necessary.

Ok well I would like to talk about what monitor has the best display qualities at 1600x1200@85hz, regardless of price. Of the monitors that can support 1600x1200 at a refresh of 85hz, a lot of them have a lot of distortion, or just generally a poorer picture. I need a monitor that was made to really do a great job at this resolution. Any thoughts on this?

Samsung 959NF
This is probably the best 19" from samsung and it's quite cheap compared to nec/mitsubishi monsters.

None off the top of my head, probably mitsubishi would be a good choice for high end.

LG makes a beautiful monitor called the F900P. Great price, comparable to Viewsonic and Samsung, but with picture quality to die for. You won't be disappointed.
