the difference is how much ram the card can pull from so in games that are optimized poorly the card with the more ram will have more to pull from. I have seen a 960 use 3700mb so having 4gb is not out of the question. But a 2gb card will be fine 90% of the time where it wont matter. but in games like dying light you would notice.

VRAM = Video RAM

Recommended VRAM:
1080P = 2 GB Minimum
1440P = 4 GB Minimum
4K = 6 GB Minimum

so, so far as just gaming on metal gear solid 5 would i need 4gb to run it on avarage settings or would 2gb be ok. does it really make to much of a difference enough to justify spending the exrta 50 dollars?

im not planning on gaming at 4k lol. so 2gb should be enough?

For 1080P 2 GB is enough for every single game.
VRAM demanding games like GTA V may use a bit more than that however it would make next to no difference in gaming performance so the extra $50 would be a waste.
