Will a hard drive advertised as a "desktop" hard drive work in a gaming pc. I want to know as desktop hard drives are cheaper.

Solution
Any sata hard drive will work in a PC regardless of the way it was marketed. You don't need an expensive enterprise drive drive for gaming, for the price of one of those you could get a decent SSD.
I think the difference you're looking at is 3.5 inch drives (desktop) and 2.5 inch (laptop).

You don't need to worry about physical dimensions of the drive, most cases can hold either. You, as a gamer, should worry about RPM and capacity. Higher RPM means the platters in the drive spin faster, which is good for speed. Capacity speaks for itself.

The only other thing you need to consider is whether or not you want a solid state, because even the slowest solid state is faster than almost any hard drive.
