I just installed my new GPU (GTX 970) and wanted to try it out so i booted up The Witcher 3 and put everything on high and my GPU was making alot of noise so i ran Speccy and saw that it had reached like 72°C . My old GPU never got so hot so i just wanted to ask if i should worrry. Thanks in advance

I'd say that 72°C is a normal temperature for a GPU in that performance range under load, especially for a demanding game like Witcher 3. The fans on my GPU don't even turn on until 60°C  I'd start worrying if you start to approach the mid-80s and 90s.

72c is still totally fine, even if it seems a bit high for a 900 series card. Reference cooler or aftermarket design? Anyway anything upto like 82-83c is safe. The card will throttle itself if it really gets too hot so no need to worry about anything. It won't break because of overheating, becasue it will prevent overheating by itself.
My cards (780tis) hit 82c pretty often in demanding games. (reference design)

Its a aftermarket design, i believe its called MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr or something close to that. Thanks f or the reply!

Around 70c or a few more degrees are totally normal for this card and still a very safe temp. :)
So no need to worry about your card gettings too hot or being faulty. It's 100% normal.
