There's also a low profile version of the 9600GT and it is more powerful than the 4650, so is the 4670.

I know the 4670 does not need external power. I do have the 4650 DDR3, and it is fairly decent, especially for the price. Though if you can find the 4670 or 9600GT in a form you like, that would be better. I was shooting for the best $40-50 dollar card back when I got mine.

No, none of the cards I mentioned need a power connector, but if you go for the 9600GT be sure you have the low profile 9600GT as there is also a "high profile" version of that card which does require a power connector.

i dont think there is a 4670 Low profile card in the market ( i havent seen any). and yes there is a 9600gt low profile but u need better psu for that and also its hard to find one of that. That 9600gt does need a PCIe connector, just look at the pics. This one needs a connector but not PCIe, instead just a 4-pin molex;

That's a really confusing way to say this stuff. Profile refers to form factor and has nothing to do with power. In fact all the low profile 9600gts I've spotted need a power connector while many of the larger cards do not.

spid77 - Since you asked about a low profile card, do you happen to have a slimline pc case with an FTX (slimline) power supply? Dell, Gateway, and HP all have slimline pc's with cases that are only about 4.7 inches wide.

That's not made by Zotac, and it's not "eco". It is low profile but it needs a 6 pin PCIe power connector. Or at least an adapter(doesn't seem to be included) if your PSU can handle it despite not having a 6-pin connector.

I think the original suggestion was the best you are going to do, an HD4650. Unfortunately the DDR3 version of the card seems to have become rare and I'm not seeing it in low-profile anyway so I guess you'll have to get the DDR2 version;

A "green" 9600GT by Club3D may fit in your case, if it does, that would be the best card available, and if that fits so will the HD 4670, but your power supply may not be able to handle it, therefore a HD 4650 would be better suited to your needs.

Would you happen to know the power supply that comes with your computer? That would be an easy way to confirm how much card you can handle.

Really though, a 4650 isn't that much slower than a 4670 or 9600, and if it means less stress on your PSU, that is probably best. The DDR3 version is nice, but it is very rare (and I have not seen it in half height).

spid77 - Thank you for posting you have a Dell Optiplex 760 small form factor pc. According to the Dell web site the best you can do is an ATI Radeon HD3470 256MB dual display, low profile card. Those slimline sff mini-towers use FTX (slimline) power supplies instead of standard atx power supplies. In addition, the PCI-e slot is not designed for high end video cards. Sorry.

That card is 64bit ddr2 and that sucks if u want the fastest low profile card. On the 4650 128 bit cards the ddr2 run usually just 800Mhz and the ddr3 on 1400Mhz (and higher).
I wouldnt go for anything less than 128bit ddr3. The zotac 256bit ddr3 9600gt low profile (but that card is very hot) that was posted before would destroy the 4650 128bit ddr2 performance wise. The 4650 chip with 512mil transistors is prety fast but not with 800 Mhz ddr2.(its like waste of transistors).
