Whats the problem if my printer wont print black. I changes the cartridge,cleane

My hp officejet is printing a very light grey. I tried cleaning the heads several times, changed the cartridge, and downloaded the latest drivers. Now what?

What model is it, and what cartridge does it use?

officejet 6500. It takes the 920xl cartridge.

That printer has a separate print head, it is not part of the cartridge like other HP printers. If cleaning did not help the print head probably needs to be replaced.

I changed the printhead according to HP directions. This didn't help at all. While I was changing it, I did notice a splattering of black ink in the back, like a small explosion had occured. Any ideas?
