whats the transfer speed of usb 2.0 device plugged into usb 3.0 port? and vice versa...

wonder if i really need a motherboard that has usb 3.0

thanks

A USB 2.0 device's transfer speed might be much, much less than the full speed (bandwidth) that a USB port can provide. Keyboard and mouse would be examples.

The transfer speed of USB devices is variable and many won't care if they're connected to USB 2 or 3. They're going to run at their own speed anyway.

USB3 speed is 100% device dependant. An SSD will transfer at awesome speeds whereas a mechanical drive will transfer at its sata speeds. A USB stick will transfer at whatever speed it transfers at, not all USB3 stick will transfer at the above mentioned speeds, in fact there are tons that cant even come close to those speeds.

@popatim, indeed, but would you not agree, particularly for pirates who download a fair amount of material that having USB 3.0 for backup purposes would be beneficial with the correct device, ie, one that one has researched to ensure reasonable data speeds. Hell, imho waiting 1 minute for a 700MB movie to copy over is too slow! lol
