Helloworld_98 :
I think some of you need to find out that all the DX11 games coming out this year which are also coming out for consoles are Rebuilds of the game, not ports.
And exactly how are you defining port that it is different from a rebuild?
I suppose if you only consider a port changing the control scheme for the new system and getting rid of some of the high/low settings without changing any of the code.. sure. However, the dx11 games coming out by the end of the year were all going to be dx10.1, instead they have chosen to do those features in dx11 which is evidently easy to change over to.
How is taking the game from dx9 to dx11 any different in principle to taking it from dx9 to dx10.1? Things have to be "redone" anyway. Far as I'm concerned it is still a port so long as the gameplay is fundamentally identical (which it is in 99% of cases, just looks/handles slightly differently) regardless of how many features they have to"redo" in order for it to work on the new platform.
I don't think anyone believes they are being ported.. and if they do it is because they define port entirely different than you do.
I mean, by your definition playing crysis on high settings would be a rebuild of the game on low settings (dx9 vs dx10) would it not?
