Whats the worst that could happen?

I am changing cpu in a desktop under warranty. The have told me several times that everything would be covered unless damage was caused by the new CPU. The installation itself is not difficult I know, it is an appropriate chip so barring me having a major screw up and breaking something while I am in there what could happen. Is there some type of catastrophic CPU failure that could fry the rest of my system. I know they might try to blame a cracked screen on the CPU but really, is there something that could happen After the installation that would destroy the whole system?

Thanks

I wondered why that happened. Lenovo offered a C560 model with that processor so I figured the it would work out BIOS wise, is there a reliable way to check that?

Sometimes with enough googling, you can find the data sheets for these types of things, but it might just be faster to email someone from lenovo. I'd hate to say yes, and then it doesn't work because of a small motherboard revision or BIOS update that is different from the other model.

Okay I can't find it yet but I will keep trying. I know there is an update out for my BIOS now, maybe I should wait to do that.

Worst case scenario, can I flash the correct BIOS before I swap them out? (if I can figure out what it is)

These are currently offered by Lenovo as options for the machine, good sign or meaningless??

4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4770T(2,5GHz, 4 core)
4th generation Intel® Core™ i3-4130T (2.9 GHz, 2-core)
4th generation Intel® Core™ i5- 4570T (2.9 GHz, 2-core)
4th generation Intel® Pentium™ G3220T (2.6 GHz, 2-core)

That shows that the stock motherboard is rather inferior as it only supports low TDP CPUs. None of those are going to be good upgrade options, unless you are coming from like a 1.5GHz Celeron. My advice would be to buy a new motherboard with a new CPU, but I see this is an all-in-one PC built right into a monitor... It's a dead end. I'd craigslist or ebay it and build something that actually meets your needs.

I have the g3240t, pretty low end, The i5-4570t is a 35w so that should be ok right? IS the temp going to be higher at the same wattage. The clock rate is not a huge increase but my Pentium only has intel HD (no numbers, just basic) the i5 has 4600 so I though that would be a pretty good improvement for under $150. I don't do anything crazy, mostly Civ 5 when it comes to gaming.

You guys are blowing all sorts of holes in my plans lol, I guess it is better to find out this way.

Yes the i5 will be better, but you will be even less happy that you sunk more $$$ into that. AIO computers like that realy need AMD APUs for some half-descent entry level graphics. It is what it is.

I'd seriously sleep on this one for a while, especially knowing that building your own entry level tower can be rather inexpensive.

Thanks for all your input, you guys are extremely helpful. I have been thinking about a build for a few years but honestly I don't really need all that. I was concerned about an All-in-one but this one has been remarkably flexible. I've got my TB HD in the optical bay and a 250gb EVO 850 with the OS and a few games. (Both are SATA III). 16gb Ram which is more than I will ever need. i think my next machine will be a build but for now putting that i5 in will give me the intel 4600 graphics which fixes the only problem I really have at the moment.

Lenovo Forums has not been helpful with the BIOS but I know they jut put out a BIOS update for all C560s which leads me to believe that either supported CPU will work. I am going to cross my fingers on this one, if I understand correctly I may have to take it right back out but it won't kill the machine.

Thanks Again.
