What's up with the Asus Matrix 7970 Platinum?

Hello! As someone new to this forum, please forgive me if this topic has been covered numerous times.

Ever since the Asus Matrix HD7970 Platinum Graphics card was released, I wanted one. I have finally saved up enough money to purchase one, but they are literally out of stock everywhere. I have searched google with a fine-tooth comb and can find nothing. I have since considered getting the MSI R7970 Lightning, only to find it is out of stock as well. What is going on with these high end 7970's? Have MSI/Asus just given up on these cards?
