Whats with usb on my motherboard and case?

Alright, I am a little to confused with this, I guess you could say I am about to build my first build this time round. Last time i got a PC and just upgraded everything apart from the Motherboard & case.

To the point...

I am what is the deal with The motherboard having USB 2.0 on front and maybe the case having USB 3.0, do i need a case that matches what USB ports my motherboard has? or does it not matter? (Lets just say as well both case and motherboard are ATX)

USB 3.0 has a specialized motherboard connection, if your case has it your motherboard will have to have the interface for it.

If your motherboard does not have USB 3.0 ports it most likely doesn't have a header for it either, which is needed to use the front panel 3.0 ports on your case. Which allow you to plug the USB 3.0 on the front I/O into the motherboard to be used as USB 2.0

You can opt not to plug the 3.0 ports in to the motherboard if it doesn't have it, but a USB 3.0 port won't work with a 2.0 header. I hope that answers your question!

Motherboards either have USB 3.0 or 2.0. Cases are the same, 3.0 or 2.0. If you case has 3.0 and your MB does not, you have two choices. 1) Most cases that have 3.0 will have a 2.0 plug attached to the 3.0 plug for this reason. Simply use the 2.0 plug on your MB's USB header. 2) You can get a 3.0 PCIe card that has the 20 pin 3.0 header. They are around $15-20. Then you plug your case 3.0 cable into this card.
