whats wrong with my gpu?

a couple of months back,i could play games like the new hitman on over 40fps with medium settings, phantom paint pain in around 50fps on high and the likes of that.

recently i have been getting these massive framerate drops and horrible stutters. even games like Dirty Bomb are unplayable. i get like 25-30fps on this game. i have tried everything, cleaned the heatsink, uninstall old drivers using ddu and installed the latest ones and even refreshed windows. nothing seems to have worked as of now.

my specs are
asus gtx 750ti 2gb oc edition.
i5 4440 3.1ghz
8 gb kingston hyperx
win 8.1 pro 64bit
wd elements 1 tb hdd
and a super old LG flatron vga monitor.

i have had this rig for more than 2 years now but never had a performance problem..until now.

Could be a virus/malware or power issue. First run a scan of your system. Note refresh doesn't always get viruses. Only a full clean install is 100% affective. You may want to do a full clean reinstall. Rule out viruses completely. If this doesn't work then I suggest testing your PSU in another know working system.

is there any other way of knowing if my psu is the cause?

Take the GPU out and test with your onboard. That lowers the psu draw. This should narrow it down to the PSU or gpu.

well,this is embarrassing. took the vga cable out and plugged it to the onboard, the monitor goes to power saving mode. 🙁
