My rig:
CPU: AMD FX 6200 @ 3.8 GHz (stock)
GPU: Powercolor HD 7870 (stock) w/ Aftermarket CPU cooler, Titan 'Super Quiet 22dBA Cooler'
MB: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
PSU: Corsair TX 650 (I've noticed an odd coil whine, corresponding to movement of the mouse.)
RAM: 8 GB Kingston Hyperx 1600 MHz
HDD 500 GB WD Black
Monitor Res: Main - 1360x768, Secondary 1600x1200
I had this PC built by PCSpecialist.co.uk 1 year ago and it has never performed to the level I expected it to. CPU and GPU usage are low in every game, as well as FPS. Some examples:
Team Fortress 2: 50-100 FPS, CPU + GPU usage each at around 15% with constant drops below 60 FPS.
Garry's Mod: Same as TF2.
Saints Row 3: 30 FPS regardless of graphics settings. Cpu and Gpu usage stay below 50%.
Minecraft:53-60 FPS, constantly fluctuating.
Chivalry Medieval Warfare:Roughly 50 FPS.
Under full load CPU temps reach 54 deg centigrade, and gaming the GPU reaches 57 deg, with an average of around 55.
Tried windows updates & fresh install + driver wipes / reinstalls with no luck. I've also unparked my cores with no luck.
I've been told that it could be an issue with the CPU bottlenecking, but others say that their own slower CPU + GPUs max games at above 60 FPS. I've been told that it could be due to my slow(?) HDD or failed RAM (have no other issues with it). I've also been told that my PSU may have failed, but I haven't experienced any typical symptoms. In addition I've been told that my monitor res isn't putting enough strain on my GPU so the CPU has to work harder, and since the CPU is weak the FPS is low.
I'm at the end of my wits and preparing to sell this PC for parts and build my own from scratch. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
