I built my computer around a 4 years ago and now it needs repairing

athlon xp 25OO
MSI kt6 delta
Corsair 512mb
Seagate barracuda 8Ogb
crappy PSU that came with a zoro case
ATI 92OO sapphire (recently replaced with a geforce 68OO

Recently my comp hangs in the bios just before the CPU or memory speed starts counting was wondering wat the problem could be?

My computers history:
I replaced the GPU a while ago because was getting no output to the monitor this problem has now been resolved hopefully!

And i have replaced a sata cable

I smelt a burning smell around the same time the computer started hanging. Could the PSU be the problem? i thought it was my collection of dust at the back of my computer?

All fans are spinning but read that the PSU could still be the problem?

I have since taken the battery out to clear the bios, i now see the splash screen and then nothing else

please help with any solutions

Use the cmos jumper on the board to reset the bios. Inspect the heatsink area to be sure it's still making good contact. Then I would gently remove the power supply leads going to the board, and look for any burn marks. If you don't find any, then you can try a different power supply first. I would get a new one anyway, assuming you're going to upgrade your system. Newegg has an antec 380w for around $35 (if they haven't sold out). It should be adequate for your 6800. Computer geeks has a good selection of used socket 462 boards; choose the chipset carefully. If you decide to spend more, post your budget and you'll get plenty of advice here.

Yeah, I'd check the PSU. following that , the RAM. and lastly the MB. (If you have to buy that much, it's better to set aside for a new build)

As old as that machine is, if your budget allows, a new build is probably your best choice. What applications and games do you run?
Newegg.com has been running a lot of specials on Antec PSUs over the last few months. Currently, the Earthwatts 430 is $30 after $30 MIR.

The ePower PSU that IH8U linked is on tier-5 ("Do not buy") of the dated but still useful list at http://www.tomswiki.com/page/Tiered+PSU+Listings?t=anon.
Get the Antec Earthwatts 430 for $30 after $30 MIR that I mentioned, at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371006. I put this in a build for my niece recently, a mid-range gamer with a 3850 in it.
