By the way, why is MINECRAFT so popular among gamers ?
I'd say for the same reason GTAV is still so popular. You can do just about anything in that game. And unlike GTA, Minecraft has nothing that would make a parent say "no" to a purchase.

I like Automation and BeamNG. Automation is a tycoon game and BeamNG is really not a racing game, but that's where it fits the best.

Automation allows you to design cars super in-depth. You can design engines and everything else. The graphics are really top tier. Heres a screenshot:

BeamNG allows you to design drive, race, and crash the cars you design in automation. Unfortunately, its not well optimized at all. My 580 struggles at 1080 high. Different maps perform very differently too.

Heres a car called the Nefice Allegiance. Its an 80s muscle car with a massive v8, in its natural habitat doing a burnout.

Jeez OP, with so much interest in games, and so many great games listed, I'd have never figured you to be an admitted casual, though the honesty is refreshing to see quite frankly.

I'm a bit of an odd man out when it comes to gamer types. I started at it late in life about 18 years ago, and am now 61. I first got into playing mp demos of games like MoH Allied Assault and Spearhead. Then I progressed to getting a lot of buy 2, get one free used PC games like Deus Ex, RTCW, as well as of course Allied Assault, Spearhead, and others. I really miss the days where used PC games were plentiful.

I dabbled into some of the better horde type games like Painkiller and it's expansions, and Serious Sam, but outgrew the mindless AI. I mostly played FPS games back then, but eventually grew to like a lot of the better TPS and a handful of RPGs. My only pet peeve about some TPS is the shot angles can sometimes be restricted, and the character movement is sometimes too slow and loopy for even things like turning around. The latter is something GTA is getting worse at lately, you feel geriatric.

Some of my fave FPS are HL2, Medal of Honor series, CoD MW, Battlefield series campaigns, Crysis series, Doom 2016, Far Cry series, Wolfenstein series (RTCW and beyond), Titanfall 2, Call of Juarez series, Bioshock Infinite, Syndicate 2012, etc.

Some of my fave RPGs are Assassins Creed series, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Mass Effect series, Fallout 4, Deus Ex, etc.

The only puzzle games I enjoy are Portal 1 and 2.

Some of my fave TPS games are Kane & Lynch 2, Spec Ops The Line, GTA IV & V, Max Payne series (mostly 3), Watch Dogs series, Red Faction Guerrilla, Quantum Break, Just Cause series, Gears of War series, etc. Both Kane & Lynch 2 and Spec Ops The Line are incredible and very challenging on the hardest mode.

Some lump horror games into TPS, but I like to keep them their own genre. My faves in that genre are Dead Space series, The Evil Within 1, RE4 & 2 Remake & RE7, Alien Isolation, F.E.A.R. series, Alan Wake (but not American Nightmare), Doom 3, Dying Light & The Following, STALKER & expansions, Dead Island series, etc.

I also really enjoy the tactical shooter genre, but since I limit my gaming to offline only anymore, it's a small list of the likes of Ghost Recon series and Sniper Elite series. GR Wildlands far and above stands out as my fave tactical shooter.

My fave stealth games are Hitman Absolution, MGSV, Splinter Cell series, Batman series, Riddick Butcher Bay, The Saboteur, etc.

Beat em up/Action Adventure games I like are Tomb Raider series, Mad Max, Sleeping Dogs, Remember Me, Godfather series, Mafia series, Shadow of Mordor/War, etc.

There's also a weird FP/TP and at times Hack and Slash genre you have to put some games into, like Star Wars Jedi Outlast, Jedi Academy, and Battlefront II 2005 and 2017, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Lastly, I also enjoy good racing games. Some of my faves are Need for Speed series, GRID series, DiRT series, Project CARS, Burnout Paradise, Shift series, Split/Second, Driver San Francisco, etc.

I can relate to what you're saying about the digital download and micro trans trend. That and lack of polish in games lately are annoying. I also don't like this move to online only games with tiered loot, and am appalled that Ubi are destroying the core pillars of Ghost Recon by making Breakpoint with a fictionalized setting and The Division type gameplay. They've now promised to bring back squad AI, but there's a petition with over 1800 signatures to also bring back offline campaign mode.

I really get into games like Ghost Recon Wildlands and The Evil Within 1, and made video tutorials of each on how to beat them on Extreme and Akumu with no skill upgrades. So I find it pretty disturbing to see things like drone armies, fake settings, gimmicky online play, and in TEW 2, dumb monsters that no longer hear you running, and a cover system with auto takedowns.

BTW, if you enjoy games that have time manipulation, you may also want to try Quantum Break, Max Payne 3, Dishonored, Syndicate 2012, Dead to Rights, and Singularity.

Couldn't figure out how to open doors lol. I'm a little confused what to do tho. No real objective and im just walking around going through save points.

HL2 starts off pretty slow to introduce you to the mechanics of the game. VALVe did this on purpose to help you understand as you go through the game and will use them. VALVe also makes major games when they want to show things off. TF2s biggest thing was its phong shading (thats what gives it the style it has). Portal and Portal 2 were about well portals and how objects interact through portals along with gravity. Left 4 Dead was about the AI Director.

I have probably listened to the commentary for each of their games multiple times and its interesting to listen to what goes through their heads. They like to show off major new ideas. HL2 was the graphics, for its time they were well ahead of many other titles. They had things like HDR and higher res textures. The physics engine was pretty amazing at the time and as well, one of my favorites, was the facial animation and lip sync technology they worked on.

Most players on higher difficulty modes use quick switching of weapons to pummel tougher enemies, especially ones that give you a narrow window of vulnerability like the Marauder. This is because you can get in way more shots quick switching because it bypasses the reloading time and animation.

Most use the Ballista or Super Shotgun on the Marauder, and it's a common strategy to get in at least one shot from each in one window. Players with faster reflexes and/or super low input lag displays can often get in three shots with those weapons. What neither of those guides say, because they may not even know, is that the only time he sends his wolf is if you or another enemy shoot his shield, so timing is very key.

The Marauder can be a bit unpredictable with his movements though. On Hurt Me Plenty mode I beat him in about 16 seconds from the time I engaged him to the glory kill finish using just the Ballista non charged in Arbalest mode. I got in a grenade after my first shot too though at the end of his vulnerability window, which stunned him a bit. He kept charging straight at me though, which makes it way easier. It's MUCH harder when he does a quick dash to the side to flank you.

I've often times gotten in two shots with the Ballista, which begs the question whether quick switching helps if you are 62 like me and don't have the reflexes or low input lag display (mine's about 33 ms, so roughly 2 frames vs 1) to pull off 3 shots. Worse yet, I find often times the quick swap key, which is basically just tapping vs holding the weapon wheel key, will insert some random weapon (usually the Super Shotgun or Combat Shotgun) instead of cycling back and forth between the last two weapons equipped.

There are places like the big room in Nekravol where you have to shoot 4 objectives that are only accessible for so long before a Pain Elemental does serious damage to you, so there I like to switch between a Ballista charged shot and a Rocket Launcher single shot. I've also had cases where out of the blue in the heat of a battle, my weapon will change mods with no animation showing. I say this because at times I accidentally hit F and I'll see the mod change animation, but in this case the video capture shows no such animation or mod change sound. It's really annoying when you're counting on being able to use Heat Blast on a Mastery level Plasma Rifle, because you don't get the blast or the extra fire power for a short duration thereafter. The only way to avoid it it seems is to not even use mod stations except for the mods you DO use.

On my Nightmare attempt I'll probably not pick up Auto Shotgun, Microwave Beam, or Remote Detonation. The only weapons I use both modes on are the Heavy Cannon, Ballista, and Chaingun. That said, I'm going to try binding mod switch to the mouse scroll button to see if it helps. I suppose it's possible the mod switch animation doesn't show sometimes if you're extremely close to an enemy, which I was.

Marauder in 16 sec on HMP

Same fight on UV in about 17 sec using Ballista/SSG switching

Boss Fight on HMP in about 2:36, which is typical your first try when you don't know what weapons and tactics to use.

Boss Fight on UV in about 24 sec (apologies for video quality, it was either a driver problem or not having waited long enough for the prior Instant Replay to write.

Below is the video where I had weapon and mod switch problems. To some degree the weapon witch problem can be worked around if you test after selecting your two weapons if it's swapping between them. Thus it's only reliable for fights that are more predictable you prepare for ahead of time The only thing I can try on the mod switching is bind it to another key/button.

The weapon switch problem occurs at 3:57. The mod switch problem occurs at 9:30. I made an effort to try tricks I've seen from speedrunners where you use the SSG Meathook to bypass enemies by swinging over them, or access high places quickly. Ironically though I didn't even realize the high spot I swung to had an armor cache I could have used after the fight. The Marauder battle at the 14:25 mark was tough for me first play through, as it takes place in a a small area and you have to deal with a Whiplash as well. Here it took about 22 sec using Ballista/SSG switching. It helps immensely to have your freeze bomb ready for the Whiplash.

MMO's: Tera, Blade & Soul but my all time favorite was (is) City of Heroes.

Open World: Division (1/2), Witcher, Fallout, Hitman, Just Cause, Assassins Creed (favorite) series. I even got a creed symbol tattoo (fairly new, about 2 months old).

FPS: Battlefield series, Half-Life, AVP:2 ( early2000's I think) I liked COD up to Modern Warfare 1 but for me it went downhill since then.

RTS: Homeworld (1/2/Cataclysm), Starcraft, Rise of Nations, Command & Conquer.

Turn-based: Worms.

There's others but above are my favorites.

I really like your Tattoo ! :D
Thanks! Yea it's my first, wanted one on my hand and looked at a bunch of designs but then thought "what's something I'd never regret? GAMING!" so then went AC. Next one is going to be on my forearm, getting the Ouroboros symbol from Full Metal Alchemist (same as what the homunculus have).

Racing:
Extreme G(from the ol' N64 days)

Boson X - not really a racing game, but an indie title where the levels just get faster and faster as you collect more 'energy' until you crash

RPG/JRPG:
"Tales of" series
Pokemon up to the 3rd season(ruby, sapphire, emerald), it got bloody ridiculous after that, IMO.
FFVII... (it was the first one I had the privilege of playing, can't really help that)
Chrono Trigger
Seiken Densetsu 3, now dubbed as 'Trials of Mana'
Phantasy Star Online 1/2/Blue Burst

Okami

Some Honorable Mentions:
Streets of Rage 2, Super Smash Bros series, Super Street Fighter 2(back when the combos were easier to execute, XD!), Soul Calibur 2, and One Finger Death Punch

By the way, why is MINECRAFT so popular among gamers ?
I don't get the hype with Minecraft either.
I watch some videos of others playing it from time to time to get a better idea before I go and blow money on it...
I get this feeling of loneliness and isolation when watching these play-throughs, which I find unusual, as I do enjoy some single player games.

You can invite friends and play together, but they're not going to be around all the time.
At it's core, it's a huge sandbox game with just you in it... Well now, that explains the feeling of loneliness... and the NPC's don't alleviate this one bit, they have no personality, save for maybe those Creeper things!

Not sure about this, but yes, I think the Younger generation of gamers are mostly into Minecraft, since this game is suitable for ALL age groups, IMO..
Well no the reason Minecraft is so popular is because a lot of people have very creative minds or want to build great things with there bare hands someone actually built the ENTIRE earth on Minecraft and actually a lot of adults are the ones who make these amazing projects there's another server that made all of Russia (I believe) I use to have a very creative mind so I loved playing Minecraft now I am not that creative so it's no longer fun there's also others who mod the crap out of the game like Skyrim totally changing the game and some of the mods are very awesome and make the game more fun or harder for hardcore players.

I love The Sims series I know EA made it into a cash grab but I just can't hate the game it's sort of like a huge part of my childhood as I didn't get into all types of games till I was like 8 so the game holds a very special place in my heart esp. sims 2 but I like sims 4 just hope sims 5 is better.

Bully...I prefer it over GTA people believe because the game is called "bully" it's a bad game where you bully kids but in reality, the story is pretty wholesome the protagonist just wants to have a peaceful school life and stop the bullying so he bullies the bullies into submitting to him and making the school a more peaceful place, of course, you CAN beat up kids and bully them but that isn't the main focus of the game at all it's about changing the school to be more peaceful and not have fighting.

I don't really have any other games that stick with me BUT I can say a few genres I love: Mystery JRPG/RPG Adventure MMO and Open World.

Thanks for ALL the replies, and the explanation !

I have slightly edited the Topic's TITLE to make it more appropriate. """currently playing Game on your PC ?

Anyways, how many of you can actually play and BEAT the DARK SOULS series (any of them, 1 ,2 or 3) ?? This game has PUNISHING difficulty, and I couldn't even skip past the first two levels, lol....Even with Cheat codes/TRAINERS I was unable to proceed further in the Game.

Because, I couldn't figure out where to go next, since there is NO objective marker, and we don't even have proper mouse/keyboard prompt buttons, if I'm not mistaken. Sometimes I used to get LOST, since there is no MAP as well I think ?

But anyways, the entire DS series is really tough to beat, at least in my opinion. Though, I've heard others don't have any problem, and they have also completed 2 playthroughs as well.

I'm currently playing RAGE 2.

Weird graphics in some of the Game level areas though, PINK color applied/painted on some of the objects, environment and Enemies. Not sure why the DEVs decided to implement this feature.

But anyways, the game is actually real FUN....Having a blast.

IF anyone plans to play WITCHER 3 again, then check out this MOD, and the Videos... Sounds very interesting at least to me, something different but similar to SKYRIM, and I have never ever got the chance to finish this game, but now I might replay this game.

Some of you may not find this interesting though.

One Modder released a pretty cool mod for The Witcher 3. The “Magic Spells for Signs” mod brings new magic abilities to The Witcher 3, allowing players to cast meteors and tornadoes, summon golems and more.

Going into more details, this mod brings new magic items that modify/replace signs abilities when equipped in quick and/or trophy slots. You can buy these items from ofieri and novigradian merchants. Not only that, but each of the items has unique descriptions to connect them with the game lore.

In order to make spells work, you’ll have to place quickslot items in your quick slot (where the torch is) and simply choose one, like you choose bomb or crossbow. It’s also worth mentioning that you can use the following console command to get all of them:

What are your thoughts about the MORTAL Kombat series ?
I enjoyed most of the ones I played - Ultimate was the bomb, IMO!
I played 1, 2, and Ultimate. 4 was ok - there was even that Sub Zero spinoff for the N64(I think?). That, was 'different'.
Armageddon was the last one I played. I feel Midway slipped up with that one, it wasn't very good. I also watched bits and pieces of my brother playing 10 - I wasn't interested in playing it myself.
I imagine my interest waned after Armageddon. But I'd have no issue playing Ultimate again!

I know it's not something to be talked about on here, but I am playing some titles via emulator - for some games it's the only way to get 'em.
There are games from 20, 30 years ago still better than some of today's titles. Graphics isn't everything, eh?

Another game I just remember that I enjoyed playing was NFL Blitz. I don't know how some folks can keep playing literally the same sports games year after year(I'm looking at you, Madden), but being able to slam and knock the crap out of other players in that game was really fun.
A special spice, if you will, that those other sports games lacked.
I'm not even a fan of sports titles, save for racing(some people don't consider racing a sport, so I don't know), but this is one of the sports games I thoroughly enjoyed!

Any interest in those wrestling games? I got the most out of the custom character creation some of them had.
Another thing I liked about those were that I didn't have to put up with the BS drama that plagues the show that eventually stopped me from watching it.
I don't care if it's staged, I just wanted to see some action, not some drama after every match - or in the middle of one. If I want some drama, I'll go watch a soap, for Pete's sake!

Nah, I don't play fighting games, or any game from a 2D perspective. I mostly play only first-person shooters like I mentioned in my OP, with some exceptions like Action, TPP, RPG games etc..

But I know action/fighting games can sometimes be real fun. I haven't actually tried playing one though. The only 2D or side-scrolling game I tried playing on my friend's PC was Darkest Dungeon. Pretty good game though...
