Hello everyone !

As the title says, which is your most favorite Gaming GENRE ? And, what all games do you actually play, be it any genre, or a mixture of 2 genres ?

Some examples of genres: Action game, Action role-playing game, SIMs like City-building or a Flight game, First-person shooter, Tactical role-playing game, Third-person shooter, Tactical shooter, "Platform game", Racing video game, Real-time strategy, Massively multiplayer online first-person shooter game, 2D Fighting games, Stealth game, Sim racing, and Role-playing video game among others.

Mine is mostly First-person Shooters, with some third-person action Games, like Gears of War 4, Mass Effect 3, DEAD SPACE, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, JUST CAUSE. Though, FPS has always remained my topmost priority.

As for what we were discussing about Dying Light 2 earlier, despite the ton of complaints about the graphics, bland characters, dialog, quests, and bugs, it's rated Very Positive on Steam, with tons of reviews. I've also seen a few people on forums I chat on say it's a great game. So it appears despite all it's flaws, the gameplay more than makes up for it.

Yes, the game seems to be okay, but honestly I don't trust any reviews posted on the web, especially on any gaming blog/website, but STEAM reviews are trustable to some extent. But still who knows some of the 5 star reviews are biased/fake, and are paid reviews as well ?

But I still believe and read some of the user reviews of legit owners of any game on Steam, unlike any Metacritic score which can't be taken seriously imo. Btw, we also need to take into account the personal taste, gaming experience, and expectations of some of the gamers. E.g., the game which I like a lot might have a 1 star rating from others, and vice versa.

But for the most part user reviews can be trustworthy.

BTW, on side note, I recently bought FAR CRY 6 on Epic Games Store/EGS. It's a good game, but too demanding and unoptimized as hell. I get FPS drops in single digits on some of the game levels/areas. It is random though, but it doesn't break my immersion though. I love Far Cry series, kind of addicted to them, lol. But there is a VRAM bug in this game which keeps on giving false warning of your GPU's VRAM.

UBI has still not patched this annoying bug till now, since I have the latest version of this game on EGS. Actually, FC6 has the same gameplay mechanics but slightly refined/polished as well. The Inventory system is cool as well. YARA's open world map is one of the biggest in this entire far cry franchise.

Too bad this game is only available on Epic Games Store, and obviously UBI store/UPLAY as well, but there is no STEAM version. It won't even come out on Steam as well, which kinda sucks big time. A lot of recent games have been exclusive to Epic Games Store. But UBI has totally abandoned STEAM.

I suspect that not only does the Epic deal give Ubisoft more revenue with a better revenue split, but Epic also doesn't take anything from microtransactions, while Steam would still take 30% from those as well. I think the microtransactions alone if I am right, would offset anything lost from not being on Steam, so it is likely the deal is working.

Moreover, Ubisoft's aversion to gaming's biggest PC platform began as a result of its big partnership with Epic, which started in early 2019 with The Division 2. Since then, other major games Ghost Recon Breakpoint and more recently Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion have been noticeably absent from the platform.

I prefer STEAM's interface and the launcher though. The Epic Games Launcher and the interface is not that user friendly, at least in my opinion.

Suffice it to say the parkour and many ways to kill enemies is mostly what keeps Dying Light fans coming back. One strange thing though is I've even heard complaints that there's not enough presence of Volatiles at night like the first game had. You'd think there'd be a lot of people upset about that.

As for Ubi, they're just as clueless with game design anymore as Valve is with their stingy Steam policies IMO. It's been quite a while since they've made a really decent game, and they seem to have abandoned one of their best titles, Splinter Cell.

Any DEAD SPACE fans out here ?

Electronic Arts has announced via twitter that Dead Space Remake will officially release in early 2023. The publisher was originally targeting a 2022 release date for this upcoming remake. However, and most likely due to COVID-19, the game has been delayed. Furthermore, EA Motive released a new Audio Developer Livestream for Dead Space Remake. This livestream focuses on the studio’s philosophy for taking Dead Space’s award-winning audio design to the next level by bringing the game to today’s generation of platforms and the new Frostbite Engine.

Here are the key features discussed in this livestream.
  • The A.L.I.V.E. System. Your first chance to hear how the system that controls Isaac’s heart rate, breathing, and dialogue delivery will sound
  • Audio Occlusion. How audio levels will be controlled through different materials and surfaces as well as projected audio down hallways
  • Weapons. Listen to both the original Plasma Cutter and the Pulse Rifle and the updates to these iconic sounds

I'm not much into LEGO games, but this one looks cool/cute. Might give it a try for a change.

A new video for the upcoming PC game "LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga" has been leaked showcasing 40+ minutes of gameplay. I just hope it has proper Mouse + Keyboard/MKB support, including proper mapping and binding options. It's coming this April 2022.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will feature the biggest roster of playable characters in the LEGO Star Wars series. It will also include the greatest legends from every era of the Skywalker saga. Players can fight against the forces of evil as Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Finn, BB-8 and a legion of other heroes.

Alternatively, they can turn to the dark side as Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Kylo Ren, and more. The greatest vehicles from across the galaxy will be also available to command. Players can jump to lightspeed in the Millennium Falcon to outrun Imperial starships, battle First Order TIE fighters in Resistance X-Wings, or podrace on Tatooine.

In this game, players can start at the beginning with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, begin the original trilogy with Star Wars: A New Hope, or launch right into Star Wars: The Last Jedi or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Players will have the power to revisit any planet, at any time, in any order they wish.

Now, this is some fresh gaming news, but don't get your hopes up yet, since this is just a glimpse of the future in gaming.

The next Tomb Raider game is in development on Unreal Engine 5. Today, during “State of Unreal 2022” event, Crystal Dynamics studio confirmed it has begun the development of the next chapter in the Tomb Raider franchise. We still don't know whether this would be a sequel to 2018 Tom Raider game, or an entirely new story/setting.

The announcement capped off today's Unreal Engine 5 presentation by Epic Games, which was timed alongside the engine's general release. Unreal Engine 5 is the powerful toolset behind Epic Games' recent The Matrix Awakens demo, and which also runs the ever-changing Fortnite.

"This new engine translates to next-level storytelling and gameplay experiences, and that's why we're thrilled to announce today that we've just started development of our next Tomb Raider game, powered by Unreal Engine 5," Crystal Dynamics said today.

"Our goal is to push the envelope of fidelity and to deliver the high-quality cinematic action-adventure experience that fans deserve from both Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise. We can't wait to take this journey together."

As with more and more game announcements these days, beyond knowing Crystal Dynamics is working on it, we don’t know anything else about this new Tomb Raider game, except that the studio is now hiring for a number of positions. After being brought on to help out with Perfect Dark and apparently still working on content for Marvel’s Avengers, we don’t expect to see it for at least three-to-four years. The game is likely only just entering pre-production.

Either way, it is nice to know that Square Enix is still supporting the series after a mixed reception to the reboot trilogy, which ranged from people loving the games to thinking they were somewhat average.

Previously Crystal Dynamics said it wanted to blend the original games with the reboot trilogy when it makes its next game. So we should probably expect a better blend of gunplay and action and the traversal and exploration the series is known for.

There are no new story or gameplay details. However, Crystal Dynamics has previously voiced its intention to connect the most recent trilogy and the classic titles with new Tomb Raider media.

As mentioned earlier, outside of Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics is currently working on post-launch support for Marvel’s Avengers and is assisting The Initiative in developing the next Perfect Dark game, which also uses Unreal Engine 5. Eidos Montreal, not Crystal Dynamics, actually developed Shadow of the Tomb Raider, so this marks the studio’s return to the series.

The new Tomb Raider is one of several brand-new games that will use Unreal Engine 5, as many studios like Crystal Dynamics and The Witcher’s CD Projekt Red have committed to using the game engine for their next titles. The new engine features notable improvements over Unreal Engine 4, namely its Lumen global illumination system and Nanite technology, allowing for increased geometric detail and fidelity.

It sounds like this new Tomb Raider is early in development, so it will likely be a while before we hear more about it. Hopefully, it’s an awesome showcase of Unreal Engine 5’s power when it launches, presumably only on current-gen platforms. :)

Actually the two latest TR titles CD developed had pretty decent reception, and even Shadow of the TR scored much better than that Marvel's Avengers piece of crap. I suspect that may be one of the main reasons for going back to TR. Other than that, there is a strong likelihood the new Tomb Raider film Obsidian, which has already received it's first script draft, will be greenlit soon.

As for the development tech, I think what was said in the 2nd vid at the 20:22 mark by the Swedish dev is going to be one of the biggest tools used by budding developers. Being able to just use a smart phone app to scan something, send it to the cloud , then get back a very lifelike looking asset, all for free, is HUGE, and something that can definitely be a big help to new developers.

Someone actually made a MOD for the game HALO INFINITE which allows the game to be playing in third-person Mode/TPP.

A first-person shooter played from a TPP Mode doesn't sound that promising, but in this case it can be considered as an exception. The gameplay looks good and even the camera angel as well. But this shouldn’t surprise us of course. After all, 343 Industries has created proper third-person moves for the game’s MP mode.

You can install the mod from here. Below you can also find a tutorial video. Basically, and after downloading the mod, you’ll have to load while in the gun selection at any FOB that also has fusion coils, load the mod and poke all. And that’s it.

The camera angle actually seemed a bit low to me, and I couldn't help but think the 3rd person view only brought out the fact that Chief's jumps looked floaty and unrealistic. I don't know man, I think I'll stick to first person view, more immersive.

Some breaking news on the gaming industry and studios in particular. It looks like Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, and more have been acquired by the Embracer Group for $300 million.

https://embracer.com/release/embrac...nd-square-enix-montreal-amongst-other-assets/

The press statement reads that Embracer Group has entered into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal, and a "catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games from Square Enix Holdings" for $300 million.

Embracer shared the news in a press release, saying this acquisition includes roughly 1,100 employees across three studios and eight global locations. The deal, if it goes through, is expected to close during Q2 of Embracer's financial year 2022/2023. The deal cost Embracer $300 million, for which the company has secured debt funding of SEK 4 billion ($404.2 million) and extended an existing SEK 6 billion ($606.4 milion) loan.

It is expected to close between July and September this year, pending approvals from various regulators.

Embracer is no stranger to acquisitions though, as it has been undergoing a rapid expansion over the past few years. Some of the other companies it has acquired/owns are Dark Horse Comics, 3D Realms, Ghost Ship Games, Gearbox, THQ Nordic, Saber Interactive, Koch Media, and many more. After the deal closes, the US will be Embracer's biggest territory, in terms of the number of game developers employed, with Canada in second.

At that stage, Embracer will have more than 14,000 employees, including 10,000 developers, across 124 internal studios.

Embracer Group was originally Nordic Games, before acquiring various THQ assets when that publisher went bankrupt and rebranding itself as THQ Nordic AB. After acquiring Koch Media and Deep Silver, followed by Coffee Stain and several others, it rebranded again as Embracer Group in 2019. It's been on an acquisition spree since then, snapping up Saber Interactive, Gearbox, Aspyr Media, 3D Realms, Ghost Ship Games, Slipgate Ironworks, Perfect World (and its MMO-developing arm Cryptic Studios), Beamdog, and Dark Horse Media, among others.

Square Enix put out its own press release about the deal, noting that its remaining overseas studios will continue to publish any future games in the Just Cause, Outriders, and Life is Strange series. It also said that this transaction "enables the launch of new businesses by moving forward with investments in fields including blockchain, AI, and the cloud."

...and a "catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more
I'd be more interested in them reviving Kane and Lynch than Legacy of Kain. I'm also not impressed with any game publishers into Blockchain. It plays such a big role in cryptocurrency, which is no help to gamers since the miners (and others) whom cause escalated GPU prices make it real hard for us to build and upgrade gaming PCs.

would love to see some full remakes of Blood Omen & Soul Reaver 1 & 2.
God of War for PC reminded me of Soul Reaver for some reason and got me thinking about the games again.
this would be great news.

there was a full 3D version of Blood Omen being developed by a crew of fans, Blood Omnicide, but it never made it very far.
looked like it would've fun though.

I couldn't agree more on that though. Square Enix, Ubisoft, and EA are just a few of the triple-A publishers that have expressed interest in blockchain gaming, and some developers are already incorporating cryptocurrency and NFT rewards into their games. It sucks big time.

I consider it to be like gambling in games. I don't think it is even legalized in some of the countries worldwide though ?

Moreover when it comes to blockchain for gaming, perhaps one of the most significant problems so far has been speed. These days, everyone wants a quality, state of the art gaming experience that doesn’t lag or provide any issues with speed and pacing. However, blockchain games that we have today are usually restricted to activities such as trading and creating assets.

Take CryptoKitties, the most popular blockchain game, for example. The game makes it possible for players to grow and trade virtual cats on the Ethereum blockchain. While it shows a great deal of minimalism, the issue of speed still exists. The Ethereum blockchain is quite fast, but with a block time of 17 seconds, games built on the blockchain are essentially restricted to progressing at least three times per minute and that is assuming the blocks are not full causing even more delay.

When you take game formats that require consistent interaction between players into consideration, you will find that operating with the Ethereum blockchain as an interface just won’t be possible.

I never played Blood Omen, but I really liked Soul Reaver 2 though. Ah, the good old gaming days, when games were so much fun. BTW, I think there was a small demo for Blood Omnicide Mod though?

Btw. I also stumbled upon this video recently. This is like a Nostalgia trip. So much has changed in the gaming industry and we have come too far when it comes to technological advancements. But OLD is still GOLD.

YouTube’s ‘Cycu1’ has shared a video, showcasing the very first tech demo of Unreal Engine version running on modern PC with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080.

Actually, this demo is not compatible with Windows 10 or Windows 11. According to Cycu1, you can only run this project in Windows XP compatibility mode. However, and even with that workaround, the demo wasn’t stable on Microsoft’s latest operating systems. This also explains the low/choppy framerate of the video.

Still, and regardless of these stability issues, the YouTuber was able to capture a few clips and put them together.

By today’s standards, this 1995 Unreal Engine Tech Demo looks dated. It can’t even come close to what Epic Games achieved with the first Unreal game. Still, this tech demo brings back a lot of memories, and I’m certain that a lot of old-school FPS fans will find it cool. Now if only people could get their hands on the Unreal Engine 2 and Unreal Engine 3 Tech Demos.

But anyway, time to put on your nostalgia goggles and enjoy the following video! 😎

DUKE NUKEM fans anyone ? I loved the original classic Duke Nukem 3D, and also the 20th Anniversary World Tour edition. However, Duke Nukem Forever 2011 was a huge letdown.

It appears that some people have gotten their hands on the 2001 build of Duke Nukem Forever and may release it in June. According to a 4chan leak, we can expect to be playing this canceled version of Duke Nukem Forever next month.

The original article can be read on DSOG:

""According to the leaker, almost every chapter is present in some form. A huge chunk is playable, though a huge chunk is also only block-outs with no enemies. Additionally, all of the E3 content is there. Furthermore, all weapons are functional with the exception of the chainsaw and the freezer (shrink ray is in the game, it’s the first weapon in slot 4).

This 2001 build of Duke Nukem Forever uses the first Unreal Engine, and the leaker will share both the full source code and the Editor. They have also written instructions for compiling it (so that PC gamers can experience it). As said, the leaker plans to release this canceled build of DNF in June.""

Some new images have also been shared by the leaker. Check the above DSOG article. ! But, it appears that the video is not available, but this whole leak should be legit IMO.

Remedy has actually released some new concept art for its upcoming action-adventure game, Alan Wake 2. In addition, the team stated that it won’t share any news about it this Summer, so don’t expect any screenshots or trailers during Microsoft’s conference or the Summer Game Fest event.

In Alan Wake 2, players will continue the writer’s story and experience Remedy’s first foray into survival horror. Additionally, Remedy has already confirmed that the game will be, once again, using a third-person perspective.

Remedy has also shared a dev diary. In this video, Sam Lake (Creative Director at Remedy), Ilkka Villi (Alan Wake) and Matthew Porretta (Alan Wake) talk about the past and future Mr Wake, including updates for Alan Wake Remastered and Alan Wake 2.

Alan Wake 2 will be coming exclusively to Epic Games Store in 2023. So this means no STEAM or GOG buy, which kinda sucks. I highly prefer using the STEAM interface and library.

I had no idea an Alan Wake TV show was being discussed. I think it's great that AMC bought the rights to it, and they're probably the best ones to do it as well.

Here's another interesting video I saw regarding Max Payne. Funny how it took 11 years for them to decide to just use the voice actor for all of them, James McCaffrey, to be the likeness of Max as well.

Then again, that was Rockstar's choice, as they developed the 3rd one, not Remedy.

I'm making great headway completing my goal of finishing the entire Halo The Master Chief Collection on Legendary. So far I've completed 4 of the six games in this collection on Legendary, and am currently at the start of the 2nd mission of Halo 4. This experience is also actually making me appreciate the Halo TV show a bit more. I was thinking the show was taking too much creative liberty by having Cortana be a clone of Dr. Halsey, but I had forgotten they mention that she is indeed a clone of Halsey early on in Halo 4. You don't often see epic fights between UNSC and the Covenant in the show, but last episode had an interesting fight between Chief and Vannack, after Halsey ordered the Spartans to make sure Chief got on a ship, which Cortana had tipped him off was a setup to facilitate an escape Halsey was planning. Kai, one of my favorite Spartans on the show, intervened. If you love Halo, you may not entirely love the show, but it has it's shining moments.

Well.. It looks like "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt"’s next-gen update is releasing late 2022.

CD Projekt RED has just now announced that the Next-Gen Update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release in Q4 2022 ! But will it be worth playing ?

After its most recent delay, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s next-gen update will now release in Q4 2022. This was announced earlier today via the official Twitter account for the Witcher games. Today also happens to be the seventh anniversary of the game’s release. While Q4 2022 isn’t an exact date by any means, it’s good to know the update is on its way.

The Witcher 3‘s next-gen update has been through some tough times. Originally, Saber Interactive, the company behind the Nintendo Switch port of the game, was handling development of the upgrade. However, possible behind the scenes issues eventually led CD Projekt Red to develop the next-gen version in-house.

The Witcher 3‘s next-gen update will feature a “range of visual and technical improvements.” Of course, this means that ray tracing and faster loading times will be present. This version will also include all the DLC and expansion content that has been released for the game. We don’t exactly what more to expect from The Witcher 3‘s next-gen version, but it should be a decent step up from the original game.

Marcin Momot, the global community director at CD Projekt Red, confirmed that new DLC inspired by the Netflix series will be included.

The delay was announced alongside news that development had moved in-house, and the team was evaluating the "scope of work to be done." It was originally being handled by Saber Interactive. The Witcher 3 next-gen will be released as a Complete Edition and comes with new items inspired by The Witcher Netflix series. While details on this content have not been provided, it's said the DLC will feature gear inspired by what Henry Cavill wears on the Netflix show.

This extra content will be made available for all platforms. The next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and will arrive as a free update for everyone who already owns the game on PC, ps4, and Xbox One.

Happy role-playing guys !

You had me thinking at first it might be worth it just for the new DLC, but I generally don't get excited about mere skins. So the visual upgrade would have to be REALLY good for me to be interested, and even then, probably not worthwhile until I upgrade to an RTX GPU. That will likely be quite some time, as I hadn't planned on a major upgrade until a 4K display makes sense, which would be when 4K TV broadcasts are a reality. IF 4K broadcasts ever do happen since chip shortages, COVID, and the invasion of Ukraine turned the world upside down. It's a sad day when otherwise potentially exciting news becomes a downer because of such things. :(
